Mosgiel will struggle this season, Coldicott will have to score a bucket load to get them into the top three

Tech will struggle also, take burgess' goals away and they're mid table pub team

Mid table pub team will still finish ahead of Ros , GI , Northen , and any other teams from 3 - 10 in the league , sorry 2 horse race again !!

Otago Youth about to have their last training as a team before they ship off to the final up in Auckland, will there attack be effective or will they just rely on the defensive game as usual to carry them through..if you take j Mitchell out they are left with no one in the midfield that will be able to play the strikers in....hard yards chasing the game up top and all over the park. Although whatever they are doing is working so we will see how it goes against a top side.

Backing the otago lads to win!!!!! But the TAB seems to have Auckland as favourites

How many goals this year have come from Jacko playing the ball up to a striker?
The team has so many options, goals and assists have come from all over the park.

With Jacko, Ridds, Mepham, Willi-Mac and Meglinski, we essentially STARTED five central midfielders against Canterbury

J Mitchell is pretty inconsistent I feel, he's agressive but tends to give give fouls at the wrong parts of the field, little things to work on for the rugby kid

You guys are a joke, less talk about Otago Youth and more talk about G.I! If i were Taylor and the other Onions i'd be pulling out to focus on the SPL. Northern will be smashed come day 1. I'm picking 8-0, I'll most likely score four and the others will be spread around.

Little onion boy, who is the coach of the worst dressed team in the league.  The grape vine has frosty tips leaving for the glory boys in Perth.

Such a good effort by the youth boys, I had no idea how good they would go from the start, but the right selections, and players in the right areas have worked wonders. Big ups to TM and the crew.

One more to go!

Save the SPL chat till then yeh?

It's a must Dino11. Spl chat can wait till the youth have won the title!

To all you Southern football supporters I'd like to apologize for your worthy Otago Youth team having to put up with a ridiculous travel schedule and substandard facilities when they get to Auckland for the ASBP finals.

As Waitakere has won the minor premiership they have opted to ignore the fans and hold the ASBP final against Auckland City FC at Fred Taylor Paddock, effectively an open field used by the winter club side. This has been a long running sore in Auckland because ACFC went to a lot of trouble and expense to build a covered stand at their compact Kiwitea Street ground but WU have been allowed to flout NZF regulations and not have any covered seating at their ground. Just down the road is their old home ground, the impressive Trusts Stadium with a big covered stand and a great view of the pitch. But to avoid spending money WU has opted to play the final at Fred Taylor and not Trusts Stadium, as in the past. So any spectators will be standing around the perimeter of an open field exposed to the elements. BTW - the forecast for Sunday is rain.

To compound the whole shambles NZF has seen fit to apparently route the Otago Youth team via Queenstown by an early bus to catch a plane to Auckland. Then when  you get to Fred Taylor Paddock, in the middle of nowhere, your players will reportedly be kept out of the basic clubhouse and instead made to stand outside with a small lunchbox provided - while NZF officials enjoy the status of the VIP only clubhouse.

To add to the insult the game is taking place at 10am, while the main final between WU and ACFC takes place at 2pm meaning the Youth final is not serving as a curtain raiser for the main event, unless you're prepared to spend six hours in an open field.

Had Waitakere not won the minor premiership then the final would be hosted at ACFC's excellent facilites at Kiwitea Street, you could have enjoyed the game from the covered stand with a great view of the compact pitch, enjoyed the best steak sandwiches in Auckland and been royally entertained at ACFC's impressive clubhouse.

As an embarrassed Auckland football (ACFC) supporter I'm sorry for this penny pinching meanness by NZF and WU on your big day. I have enjoyed the hospitality of Otago on away games with ACFC.

Good from you Trueblue, im sure the boys won't mind when they have that trophy in their hands drinking raspberry and coke from it ;)

Well said Trueblue, it's a disgrace alright but to be honest, this is nothing new for Otago utd/club sides in the national league.

Good luck to you guys on Sunday, would be nice for an Otago side to win a domestic final, will be there - hopefully it's a good game!

Centreback Matt Joy was rewarded for his consistent form by being named Otago United's player of the year at a function at the Clarendon Hotel last night.

Seamus Ryder earned the most consistent player award

? waste of time having most consistent when the POTY is rewarded for his "consistent" form

other awards

Regan Coldicott Players' Player of the Season.
Joel Stevens Young Player of the Year

Hear the youth team lost 3-0 in the final to Auckland and that it was silly mistakes that cost them. However best an otago national side has ever achieved. Top marks to the lads 'started from the bottom'.
