2-2 a bit hopeful I reckon unless its the Canterbury Pride they are playing???? I reckon 5-0 minimum if Canty feel like it. The only way Enrique will score is if Timaru has a Samba festival on this weekend.
Southern Football (incl Southern United)
Horner and Burgess SU coaches by 2015 then.
In luiz we believe

Hi Rab
Just a wee note of interest
Me and Michael took a Mosgiel Under 19 side to the lotto tournament in Christchurch over the long weekend
We topped our pool on the fist day, beat Southland in the quarter final, came up against Coastal Spirit in the semi ( Coastal had won the tournament the last two years ) we despatched them 4 -0 with a performance by the team that any coach would be proud of setting up a final with Nomads.
We went 1 nill up through a well taken goal by James McGarry in the first half
Two minutes into the second half in which was a average decision, the ref sent of Ryan McGarry
He showed one yellow for a tackle, in which Ryan had won the ball and then a second in the same infringement for kicking the ball away in which all the lad had done was play on ...
The boys from then on in played out of there skins, they continued attacking and playing the ball around and with 5 minutes to go we got a second through James McGarry
Final score in the final 2 nill to Mosgiel
All the lads played well but to single out a couple, Cody Brook was composed, showed a great first touch and linked well with James McGarry
James McGarry scored 7 goals including a brace in the final and capped of an outstanding weekend by being voted player of the tournament
Cheers

Darn good job Mr Brook. Now go coach SU please.

Vader having read these forums for a long time you are either a complete genius living in the best house in the world, or more likely not. You are pretty much always right and have the solution for everything. I expect you must be a teacher, ie those who can do...
Might make your life less miserable if you got out there and did something rather than having a go at the world. Life can be fun when the glass is half full
chill dude, it's a forum, a place for opinions
vader wasn't rude to burgess,he just expressed an opinion (and later expressed his admiration)
Darn good job Mr Brook. Now go coach SU please.
All good topics at the moment, well done to Brookside and Mosgiel, although not on a par with Napier tourney a win is a win. Bodes well for another good year for the Southern United youth team hopefully.
Southern United will struggle today in Timaru especially with a weakend team according to ODT's finest Rabbit Smith. Can't believe the ASB draw, Otago only play one game in Dunedin until Round 9, players gonna be hating the travel.
As for Coburn, Horner, Burgess discussion, all extremely fine Southern players in their prime, all probably would have been All Whites if they lived in Auckland. Good to see Burgess and Horner both coaching now and giving back to the game.
All 3 should have been All Whites considering the muppets that played at the period of time, one does wonder if they had lived in Auckland they would have been, just goes to show that if you live down south you mostly get overlooked for an average player up north. Think they justifying it by saving on money they didn't /don't have
i agree with that sentiment
i remember when ian marshall took over the all whites. suddenly heaps of christchurch united players were capped and the mount wellington love-fest came to an end
Well I would like to hear these players that got picked over those 3 so we can have a healthy debate about it.

Can't remember exact dates around 2001 All Whites went to Asia for a tournament - team was picked mainly from NZ based players.
Burgess - National League golden boot runner up with D Tech scored around 15 goals for a team finishing in the bottom 2 *not selected
Brad Scott - Central United - reserve team - scored 1 goal in national league - *Selected

This issue, not specific selections, was essentially one of the reason Otago started sending a team to milk cup?
Southern United down 2 - 0 to Canterbury United at half time in Timaru. An early own goal with Russell Kamo scoring the 2nd.

Would from the Ref in Timaru is that SU played well at times and had some good pace down the wing and very nice taken Pen by SU but overall Canterbury were just to much.

No mention on the fact that SU may as well have put a Red shirt on one one SU centre back, volleyed a chip shot past his own keeper inside the first minute then failed to put his head to a high ball even having two chances to do so.

in Timaru the SU coach was using the match to try combinations out, first two goals came through andrew ridden playing at center back (unreal) not heading the bowl clear, instead he let it bounce losses possession then goal. i'll still cant understand why they didn't select jude or ross howard. Saying that, the boys played well in first half, second half was a joke. Word is Joy can't play first games due to uni commitments.
Oh it's going to be a verrrrry long Sumer for the lads. I say let's start the 'LETS BRING BACK JUDE' starting with the banner next Sunday against Waitak.
Cheers to the ChCh lads for the reports and info on the game in Timaru. Great to have the Vader and others on the thread at the moment. Good reading. How about one G. Carr from down this way that should have played for N.Z (a bit earlier than the timeframe being talked about). Who was in goal for S.U yesterday? Isn't it a bit late in the day to be trying combinations? League starts next week. Shouldn't the best XI have played and employed the tactics that will be used during the season. Nice to read that there may have been some nice phases of play but how many positives can you take out of a 1-5 loss. On a far more important note, sad to hear of the passing of NZ representative Paddy MacFarlane. The man was a class act and represented NZ while based down south.
