This.
If they were told to stay high and press, then Luiz has clearly got it all wrong. Otherwise the players are responsible - not just the WBs but those around them who couldn't rectify the problem.

No doubt Tom was looking forward to playing ACFC at FBS and having another big game for SU.
Will he be fit and healed in time for Dunedin Techs season opening game?
Cashmere Tech looking for a top keeper again won't be surprised if he heads back there.
Not many clubs in Chch have a standout keeper, Adam at Bays and ? for the rest.
Tom was seen training here in Chch two weeks ago the Canterbury United squad also there.
Good money [for players] doing the rounds from the top MPL clubs [see Mainland forum on YF] to get players with a bit of quality.

Good for Josh to get the start and hope he enjoys it.
The question is why is Potrich in the squad if he works weekends and doesn't get to trainings. One of the youth keepers

10 . . . no team has scored 10 in a game in the league, there is no way they can put that on the young keeper either, poor coaching yet again.

The young keeper still should not have been put in that position. You can transfer a keeper at any stage of the season. Just terrible work by those running the team. A mate at the game was texting me the happenings but I couldn't believe the change to three at the back in the second half. It made no sense. There appears to be no defensive structure at all and I believe the coaches don't know how to implement one or what to tell the players as regards their roles. This result has been coming all season and the last three home games tell the full story of what the abilities are of the coaching staff and of too many of the players. Do you think the coaches watch the videos that are available or do they just not know how to interpret what is seen into a team pattern. I am sure that no matter what the result against the kids next week Luis and co will say it has been a successful season with a few lies and a bit of spin to ensure he maintains his image as a genius.  Also worth noting the youth (Mosgiel/OBHS) team were rubbish yesterday against a pretty average Canterbury team. They need to pick up some points soon or they will go from first to last in the space of a year. National league slipping out of town with the last of the samba drummers and a bunch of local referees all sharing a Tinto Bus. Last seen on the Kilmog. No Dunedin club will be able to afford it in the near future if the franchise system is indeed got rid of. At least Football South will be happy since they don't want a South Island League far less a National League. And the women haven't helped by getting last (I think) in their National League (again). Looking foward to Rab's end of season review. He will keep it positive somehow.

Head up Josh, you played well just a shame that you had average players round you with no playing system.

Sorry but the board got it wrong with these appointments and must be held accountable!!!!!!!

Will there be a S.U next year? Isn't the AGM this Tuesday with most of the board resigning? Also heard they are 30k in the hole. If so that's a shame as the main positive outcome of the previous regime was that they stayed in the league and wiped clear the previous debt by keeping expenses to a bare minimum. Luis has a lot of staff and some overseas players.Hope they are not being paid more than they are worth. Results certainly don't justify such debt if that is true.

Reason Tom was in ChCh the other week was his brother, Ryan was getting married. Ryan plays for Nomads one of Tom's former clubs so was down there catching up with so me old team mates.

Apparently the second year involves even more small sided games, more futsal balls and even less defensive work. But the selling point is every player gets a coloured hula-hoop of personal choice and the coach will drive everyone to the airport at least once.

“It’s frustrating because, with injuries and unavailability, our defensive structure has been so inconsistent that what happened today was inevitable,” he said.

A 10 nil scoreline should never be " inevitable" and certainly not what a coach should be thinking. If you know it's going to happen then do something about it - like try 5 at the back rather than 3. You should never ever lose 10 nil no matter how good the other team may be.

Auckland well-done on an awesome team performance against Southern United today. I am too shocked to comment on the SU game other to say the coach should do the honorable move and resign immediately as the SU coach.

Are you saying that small-sided games, specifically futsal, aren't beneficial to football development? Or it is detrimental?

Without looking like I am stirring, that's a spanking.

Personally, when you are a 16yo boy making your debut in goal against the top team of the last decade, you've got every right to get a mulligan. I don't know the boy, the players, the team, the coach or how the game went other than the result on paper but I think as a coach, that's irresponsible doing that to a young player. He could be made of stern stuff (and I really hope he is) but that's how you destroy young footballers. I know you don't envisage a result like that before KO but you would at least look at the variables and go 'this is not right'.

I really hope that does not break him.

The goalkeeper was the least of the problem. He made good saves and wasnt at fault for any of the goals.
What caused the scoreline was the tactics.
Starting with a 451 against the top side and being down 2nil at half time isnt bad. It was clear that SU were never going to compete.
However changing to a 352 against the league leaders?!? That is madness.. Putting strikers on in the wingback roles and man marking everywhere is diabolical.
Goodbye Luiz; the idea was good, but it really shows when a coach is out of their depth.

The kid actually did ok and made a few good saves couldnt fault him for any of the goals other than conceding the penalty

Hey like I said, I have zero clue other than a result on paper. I was not blaming the boy so sorry if it came across that way. I was more meaning it like this:

You are a 16yo on debut in the top competition against the top team and you pick the ball out of your own net 10 times. That would be demoralising for more than a few but I guess with the other factors with this young lad, it could wreck you. I hope it does not. Sounds like he had a reasonable game from what I read. I hope the coaching staff impress that point on him as well.

Completely amazing.  But there was late goal in there as well. In the 67-82 minutes there were 6 goals (@ about 2.5min/goal) - an incredible goal burst.  All this on my first weekend back in Dunners - I should have gone to the game.

I'm glad this sad, sorry coach and his bunch of Varsity losers (not one Tech or Cavy player in the starting XI) got spanked.  Worst defensive record ever for an Otago side and they would have been the worst attacking record too if not for the Brazilian import up front.  All this equals the worst ever Otago team.  Don't be beguiled by wins against the worst ever Waitakere side and a bunch of kids - kids who will most likely beat us next week unless we play 5-5-0 and then we might get a draw.

Why?  Because the coach and his sidekick think they can take the rubbish that gets smashed every week in the FS PL and turn them into good players.  Of course it all takes 5 years, by which time Otago have been booted out of the league.

How did your Southern football authorities get away with fielding the varsity team in the ASB Premiership? The coach works at Otago Uni and is the varsity coach isn't he?
Sounds like the real problem lies with the right bunch of Charlies who govern your game down there.
I live in Christchurch and it reminds me of Canterbury's darkest period in national league history in the 1990's when the league was club-based and Woolston Working Men's Club won the Mainland league and so earned the right to enter the national league. They were crap and regularly finished bottom of the national league, rarely winning any games. Because of club rivalries, players from other Canterbury clubs wouldn't play for them.
Why can't you get it together down there to have a side like Canterbury United that draws the best players from all local clubs? I remember Tech and Cavie having pretty decent sides in the last two decades. Aaron Burgess and Nathan McCullum were very good strikers for Tech when there was a South Island winter league years ago.
