I am a supporter of the Nix and have been since their inception into the A-League. (I also supported the Kingz and Knights but as we saw in the LA v OFC game Auckland is crap at football games.) I am just wondering if there is a Chch branch of Yellow Fever? If not, why not? And would it be acceptable to get one going.

do chch fans converge anywhere to watch phoenix games?
I live in Christchurch but I don't know any football-friendly bars or anything but if someone could find some then I'd go.

O'Malleys in Sydenham was once agreat football haunt but has now changed ownership and known as rob roys -
Maybe if al the chch fans met at the one pub for Phoenix games the pubs wills be more acomodating.
Generally pretty hard to find a bar screening the game and if they do it's usually with teh volume down!!

have you checked out the fox & ferret in riccarton? they may show phoenix games?

Im from timaru and often am in christchurch when nix games are on.
surely there would be a pub around that was football friendly.
I was at a pub last weekend watching the phoenix until a few fellas came in and asked if they could watch the cricket... straight away without hesitation the manager changed the channel.
really pissed me off.
Yeah I'm probably going to be at Canty Uni next year, but if not I'll still be in Canterbury so will be able to catch the games. Someone should give one of the pubs a ring and see if they'll oblige as I don't want to show up and have some people watching Korfball or whatever and refusing to move. (Not ringing!)

From what I remeber lads the Holy Grail was pretty good for EPL games when I came in at 2am or later...or maybe it was lacross...at that stage midget racing would have counted for football!
So I am back in CHCH for a week and will be there for the match on the 4th, anyone want to meet at a pub?

Yeah true...I think its just about Critical mass. Just get someone down there to meet with a manager in town and tell him about the YF card, get them hooked into it and going hard. Then make them the only pub in CHCH to visit for Home and Away matches for live football. There must be someone out there who own's a pub who's not sold out on rugby (or perhaps thats why we keep winning the super 14!!!)

yeah, i'm about 99% over rugby now, if we win one more super 14 title they should just let us keep it and can the competition. the phoenix draw bigger crowds now than half the npc sides anyway

ive found a few footy friendly places round town. the bard is a top place but most of the time ikve been there they've had a band instead (could be good for FA cup, CL etc etc though). either fox n ferrit seem to show most games, as does TSL by the palms, and the bar in the block with the mad butcher in shirley-old mans bar if ever i found one.
alot of places in the central city are more likely to have loud music etc than show football...hunt around and theres a few gems

I'm in. The Bar in Shirley shops is about a 30 second walk so that works for me if anyone else is keen.
And when all goes well friday could meet up to watch the equally as important CCM game on sunday.
