I thought I'd visit the Liverpool thread to ask a question that has me stumped. I watched most of the Liverpool - Stoke game and saw some of the post-match interview. Everyone seems to be complaining about the disallowed goal. Benitez can't understand it. Francis thinks it's been disallowed because of Kuyt's run to the far post.

Kuyt has nothing to do with it. As I type, I have the action paused at the exact moment that Gerrard strikes the free kick and the view is across the pitch - the only shame is that the linesman is not visible to see when he flags. Kuyt is well onside, but there is definitely one, possibly two, Liverpool players in the middle who are offside when the kick is taken. I can't make out who the players are, but the one who is definitely off is Torres. He tries to head the ball - he misses it but is a few yards in front of the keeper who is clearly influenced by the head attempt without which he may or may not have been able to get to Gerrard's free kick.

What I don't understand is Francis going on about Kuyt all game as being incorrectly called offside or Rafa talking about the Ref being in a bad position in the interview, when it is a correct text-book offside, albeit one that required replay to see so the linesman did amazingly well.

Thoughts?

I didn't think Torres was off nor was Kuyt, I have to agree with you thinking the linesman was looking at Torres, not Kuyt. I have to disagree that it was the right call as neither player made contact with the ball and I didn't think that they were off either

Didn't see post match stuff, way too frustrating. We have no aerial presence going forward (at set pieces) and when a team defends extremely deep then the space isn't going to be there for lots of good shots, we miss Hyypia on attack. Neither Carragher or Skrtel offer an attacking threat from set pieces. Torres is decent at best and Keane just doesn't have the height.

Stoke defended really deep and really well. Sorenson made some good saves and Keane, Torres, Kuyt were wasteful. I was impresses by Arbeloa even though he always had an overlap he delivered some nice balls and beat his man a few times.

Man U , Chelski even Arsenal have defenders who score from set pieces we don't have that, without our aging Hyypia.
