Liverpool youngsters Jay Spearing and Stephen Darby are set to sign new contracts with the club, according to Sky Sports.

It is understood that both Merseyside born players are part of Rafa Benitezs future plans and the Spanish manager is offering them both new three year contracts, with one year remaining on the current deals.

Good news for a couple of the youngsters coming through.

Back on the Owen debate (just briefly):

I just read that he was trying to come back to Anfield when he got the call from Fergie. Straight after that he was back on the phone to LFC offering his 'cut-price' services. With this in mind, I think we've missed out... Understandably from Rafa's point of view he stood firm and said no after their previous encounters but if we take a step back for a second and consider our current situation; We don't have a lot of cash to spend, we need a backup striker and someone who's prepared to take a bit of bench time. Doesn't Owen fit that bill? Besides, he was cheaper than a scoop of chips...

{Apologies for the early morning, pre-coffee bitter rant - I guess I never really got over him leaving for Madrid}
