Ireland celebrating as though they're already in Poland/Ukraine. Hope Estonia do them, although it seems unlikely.

Also a massive lol at Rooney's three game ban. No group stage matches for him, so he'll only feature in one match in the tournament.

If they manage to get that far.

Without Rooney, it could be a challenge...

Is there anything to do with English speaking football teams that you hate? Oh yes, you are an Arsenal supporter that lives in the UK. Illegal immigrant?

I speak English. Unfortunately, that means I am unable to comprehend what you have written.

Please try again. Arsenal2011-10-14 22:16:53

Given recent UEFA coefficient anomalies I am expecting England to be in the top seeds, therefore avoiding the big dogs.

England are pretty much locked into the second pot for the final tournament.

But they shouldn't really be worrying about big dogs when they can't beat Montenegro in two games.

Ahh is that because the two hosts are seeded pot 1?

Yep, Pot 1 is Poland (automatically A1), Ukraine (automatically D1), Spain and the Netherlands.

Pot 2 at the moment is Germany, Italy, England and Russia, but Russia would drop into pot 3 if Croatia win both games against Turkey in the play-off.

I see. And I'm guessing co-efficients won't be changing much between then and the draw (I'm guessing the 'final' co-efficients used for the tournament are those at the time of the draw?).

Oh dear France are going to be in pot 3 aren't they...hopefully they get a host and England.

Yep, the co-efficients after the play-off are the ones on which the seeding for the tournament will be based.

Also, I have a feeling that France are in Pot 4 at the moment, but will try to confirm this for you.

Pot 1: Poland, Ukraine, Spain, Netherlands
Pot 2: Germany, Italy, England, Russia
Pot 3: Croatia, Greece, Sweden, Denmark
Pot 4: Portugal, France, Ireland, Czech Republic

This is the situation with the pots with the current co-efficients. Like I said, Croatia with two wins in the play-off would move up to pot 2. Portugal can move into pot 3 if Croatia get knocked out, or if they get a win and a draw at least in the play-off. France can get into pot 3 only if both Croatia and Portugal are knocked out in the play-offs.

Oh christ. I knew we'd been poor, just not that poor.

Come on Turkey and Bosnia.

Where are you getting these co-efficients from btw? I can only find these.Arsenal2011-10-15 23:49:23

No, these are different - based on points accumulated over the last two major tournaments (EURO 2008 and WC 2010) and their qualifying campaigns (including the current one), and they all have different weightings.

This is why France is ranked so low - poor campaigns in 2008 and 2010, and not overly flash in qualifying either.
Permalink Permalink

Hmmm strange that England are ranked relatively high then, given their no show at Euro 08 and the gash they served up in South Africa.

Permalink Permalink
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah, the difference is in their qualifying campaigns - England qualified for the last two tournaments much more easily than France, and the weighting favours the more recent campaigns.

It's not looking promising at this stage, ESPN has tennis scheduled as of right now.

But they've been showing a lot of Ireland in this qualifying cycle, so wouldn't be surprised if they show them again.

yes i looked online at the times i thought it would be and all i found was some stupid tennis (all tennis that isn't a grand slam i consider stupid. same goes for golf and a non-major. though the players championship is ok, especially when craig perks won it)

There is no Euro on ESPN this weekend.
We have Sentanta showing the live Estonia v Rep. of Ireland, Turkey v Croatia and the friendly England v Spain.
They also have a couple of WC qualifiers from South America.

So it seems Ireland and Croatia there already, Czech most likely too. Portugal-Bosnia will be the one to watch midweek.

Draw is on Friday.

Pot 1: Spain, Netherlands, Ukraine, Poland
Pot 2: Germany, Italy, England, Russia
Pot 3: Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Sweden
Pot 4: Denmark, France, Czech Republic, Republic of Ireland

Perfect group for me would be France, Poland, England, Sweden.

Also, petition to re-name thread as EURO2012.

Spain, Germany, Portugal, France would be pretty group-of-death-y.

Spain, Italy, Greece, Ireland.

Group of Debt.

Three for me, and two for them.

Group A: Poland, Greece, Russia, Czech Republic.

Group C: Spain, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Croatia.
Group D: Ukraine, Sweden, France, England.

Very happy with that draw!

Group A: very weak
Group B: 'group of death'
Group C: predictable, gulf in class between top and bottom two
Group D: France to top, Ukraine second. Rooney not to get a game.Arsenal2011-12-03 07:14:23

Will be interesting to see your picks, as Group A is not weak-Russia ranked 12, Greece ranked 14 and the Czechs 33.
There is not the gulf in Group C, Croatia is 8th and the ROI is 21st.
As for Group D, your bias is showing.

Happy enough with Englands draw. No real easy teams in the draw sp cant expect any real easy games.

Group B should have some pretty good games
