My point is that with all the negative press re heat, Muslum laws etc. a lot of Europeans won't go.
FIFA will more than likely change the dates to Jan

There is zero chance of them changing the dates. I can't believe you would fall for this.

I have not fallen for anything. There have been reports coming out of Asia and Europe that some teams will boycott the WC if they have to play in 40 plus.
I know that there is meant to be air con, but what about training etc.
If you have ever played in these conditions Buffy you might appreciate what others are worried about.

The trouble with you is that you try and make everyone else believe that you know something about football. You are just full of crap.

All playing facilities will be temperature regulated, same goes for all fan related areas.

No way will the clubs let a World Cup take place in January, that's when you really would see a boycott take place. Otherwise, it's all rubbish.

Today Blatter was quoted as saying that FIFA would leave the door open for Qatar to host thw 2022 WC in winter.(Qatars winter)

Blatter also promised Oceania a full spot in the 2006 World Cup.

I wouldn't take anything he says seriously.

Well Buff, it would appear that now Platini not only says the WC in Qatar will be in their winter, but may be shared with other Gulf States. Now thats Blatter as well.

Platini is as big a dickhead as Blatter. Again, wouldn't pay attention to anything he says.

With most of Europe taking a winter break you can bet on it that they will have the WC in January. The UK will of course object, but I am willing to bet that it is a done deal.

The winter break is there for a reason. A break. Big clubs across Europe will object, in fact most clubs big or small will object. Who would want their players to go to a grueling 6 week tournament (that includes pre tournament prep btw) in the Middle East when they're meant to be resting up over Christmas pud?

If the WC is in January, clubs would have to release players in early December for preparation, and wouldn't get them back likely until mid-late February. Can't see clubs accepting this, and it would require either a shortened season, or adjusting the schedule for the seasons either side (i.e. three seasons out of kilter.) WOn't happen.

Also, winter olympics are set to go in Jan 2022, so if they shift it would pit the two most corrupt organisations in world sport against each other.

Really, I thought it was there because the weather is sh*te. Surely they'd be welcoming winter in Qatar.

Bin Hamman is now saying that despite the noises coming from FIFA, Qatar will still be going with a June/July WC.
Of course, he would. It'll help Qatar no end if the oppositon are keeling over in the heat.

Agree with your comment about the winter break. Not sure, but it is only the UK and Belgium that don't have a break. You can't play football in -20d, which is what they get in parts of Europe.

maybe the arab spring will reach Qatar and the new government won't want to spend a billion trillion dollars making air conditioned stadia that will never be used again

The idea is that stadiums will be used again - they are supposed to be deconstructed after the tournament and shipped off to less fortunate countries and re-erected again.

yeah, but not used again in Qatar. I doubt my hypothetical post-revolution democratically elected Qatari government would be happy with that.

Frank Lowy, on this issue, certainly.

There have been a few murmerings in the press over here that the aircon won't be effective in v hot day time temps which could render the thing unsafe - maybe that could end up being a convenient excuse?

If the bloodletting truly starts at FIFA I could see the Qatar WC as a bit of a scapegoat - but looks like not a lot will change.  Maybe Jack Warner will really start spouting off?

Seems like it's basically a lock now that it will move to winter. Apparently it's only the Premier League, from the big leagues, that are still pushing back on it.

The prem is obviously a little harder to bribe than the others.

Qatar was the most ridiculous decision FIFA has ever made. And there have been a lot.

Absolutely disgraceful.  FIFA need to step up and do something here.
