Somebody had to be last. Apologies, Rapids fans, but English Championship retreads playing in an ultra-defensive 5-4-1 formation don’t exactly create can’t-miss soccer. With offensive tactics that loosely translate to “give something for Dominique Badji to run onto and hope he can win a corner,” there isn’t much to see from Colorado.
Their games can be scrappy too. The Rapids have picked up 56 yellow cards this season, far and away the most in the league. Second placed Orlando City have 41. They commit the most fouls per game (15.4), and hold the least amount of possession in the league (43.4%).
Playing v rrrrrrrivals Real Salt Lake (RSC). Rapids 0-2 down after 20 minutes.
They've just stopped the game and everyone has gone inside due to lighting approaching, never seen that before. I guess can happen in a bit in the US.
Commentators are tearing Hudson apart: "There is an identifiable system in play by Anthony Hudson, but it's just not working".
RSC play with quite an attacking formation, and seemingly some good attacking players, so Hudson has set up with 5 at the back sitting really deep. Can see the 5 of them lined up in a row across the pitch when SLC have the ball, even when just approaching halfway, basically conceding midfield completely and not putting pressure on their possession.
Rapids fans are obviously loving it:
"Absolute disgrace. Cant even watch this crap. Utter utter shark. I honestly cant take this anymore, hudson has to go and we have to rebuild again."
"I cant wait for Hudson to be gone. Worse manager in rapids history."
What do the fans ever know.
Finishes 2-2, with Rapids scoring late at 88 mins!
Rope a dope tactics from Huddo?
Didn't see the second half. Real Salt Lake came back very sluggish after the lightning break (which was about an hour).
Just need an hour break after the first 20 minutes every game and he'll be right!
Well, there goes his carefully built image I guess.
Big result for him against the Galaxy, 90th minute winner, and favourable stats for once, with nearly 60% possession and more shots etc.
Galaxy had been unbeaten since mid-June, probably just about his most significant result since taking over.
Can he build on momentum? Or just a blip?

Things seem to be looking up.
Followed the win vs. LA Galaxy with a 2-1 home win vs. San Jose
And then drew a mid-week game this week away at the Galaxy 2-2
They also drew with Boca Juniors 2-2 on 24 July in a friendly (and won on pens).
Away to LA FC tomorrow 2 pm NZT
Lost 0-2 away to LAFC, one of the top teams in the conference.
Results and performances have improved in general, which is interesting. Hudson got some buy-in?
I see Colvey and Wynne are no longer starting, and Colvey isn't even on the bench.

Rudan mentioned that Colvey was a loan option for Nix, but that he didn't want to agree to it without seeing Colvey in person. Or something along those lines.
Man he can get tetchy some times https://www.coloradorapids.com/post/2018/08/19/laf...

Colvey was been loaned out to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, played a couple of games for them and then has dissappeared. Doesn't appear to be on loan with them anymore but not appearing for Rapids since either.

That beard has definitely got a lot greyer the last few months
He looked much more agitated then in his press conferences here, lots of jumping around and moving from side side in a nervy way.
The joys of being a club manager verses his previous cruisy number
Losing 6 zip should be the nail in his coffin.
If they keep him on after that it serves to show how weak and pathetic the Rapids board are.
Colorado had two men sent off before halftime (both the result of stupid, unprofessional acts by two rapids players). Prior to this they had taken 7 points from 4 games (2 W, 1 D, 1 L), Hudson if anything has got them moving in the right direction (besides this terrible result) considering at one point Rapids didn't get a win for 10 games (9 L, 1 D). I don't see him getting sacked.
Do some research and consider the larger picture, next time (don't just look at results).
Big fan protests going on, they're well and truly pissed now. Tommy Smith in the bad books with Rapids faithful for swearing at his own fans for their Hudson Out chants. Found this on Twitter:

I agre their form picked up but am quite confident it was blip. Even his press conference gives the impression he’s losing the dressing room.
"I'm not well liked" says Hudson.
20% win ratio. The worst of his career.
just watching duke and the rapids defenders are mud, hard for a coach when your defenders keep giving the ball away close to your goal and giving the other teams chances that they are putting away.they are also missing easy passes when the other team are not even pressing them not even going to bother watching the second half .

He brought them in so he needs to own it (even if they are kiwis).
They've been outscored 13-2 in last 5 matches.
Decent thread title change, though 30% win record is generous, I don't think he's had a win ratio that high at any club he's been at?
They haven't scored a goal in over 6 hours. When are the board going to lose patience with this charlatan?
People seems to be talking in extremes here. Things don't have to be mutually exclusive. From what I can tell, Hudson:
Generally these would make it difficult for you to be a top level coach, I am absolutely fascinated to see how he goes at Colorado
Yes will be very interesting. I have absolutely no idea on general lifespan of MLS coaches, but I'm happy to wager $100 with someone that he lasts the full season with Colorado. Proceeds to charity of winner's choosing.
As long as he doesn't have an owner/CEO talking about offense & defence formations, my hunch is he will do okay. Can only do better than Nellie at Toronto.
I'll take that bet.
Getting nervous Buffon?
He's at 31% overall and that's only inflated because of the Bahrain and New Zealand under 23 sides he was in charge of. He's currently on his worst win % at Rapids but they took ages to fire their last coach Pablo when people wanted him out so I think he'll survive this season still.
Dream on...
"“We’re only a few players away from being a really strong team.
One thing I do know is the way we’re setting our stall out in terms of how we want to play, in terms of the style, I know it’s going to bring us a lot of success.”
In other news: "RMS Titanic will reach New York despite large hole in hull says captain..."
Received another pumping today.
In their last 6 matches they've scored 1 goal and conceded 19.
Hudson just reached 20 losses from 33 games. Nearly the most from any team he has managed, only worst number of losses was first team he took, Real Maryland Monarchs, which he had 21 losses in 45 games. His current win percentage is 18.18%.
Also only second team since MLS got rid of shootouts to find winners in 1999, to have two six or more losing streaks in one season. Could be first to have two eight games losing streaks in a season if they lose next two games.
Record-setting manager.
Record-setting manager.
Damn you beat me to it!

A shame he hasn’t had a couple of penalty shootouts that he could use to boost his goal tally

But they were? There results were improving and some of their football was looking promising - they were just prone to the odd rash decision or brain explosion (such as two stupid red cards in the game being spoken about).. and now theyve slipped off again, badly.
