There were Subbuteo leagues here in NZ too. We had one called the South Auckland Subbuteo League. I know of at least one other league that was based in Onehunga too.
The most players we had were two leagues of seven players each. We'd meet every Sunday and play, and sometimes had midweek games if you were playing someone who lived handy and someone else from the league could ref. We took it pretty damned seriously. At least one of us went on to play for the All Whites too, but that's another story.
I've still got all my stuff - in fact I still buy and paint teams in my spare time. I used to make quite a tidy amount out of painting teams for other people, at least it was a tidy amount for a fourteen year old. It's a great game, how many other games like it involve such a high level of skill?
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.
