Semi Final 2 - Germany vs Spain

That octopus is going to be calamari now. Tremendous game of football, and even though I feel a tinge of sympathy for the Germans, Spain were the better team on the day.

Die Mannschaft just didn't turn up today. Spain's highly skilled possession play just too much. Well deserved victory.

Italy with 11 (1938) but with less games back then.
They could also tie the lowest goals conceded with 2 if they come through with no goals against in the final.

That (above) is shameless and pathetic and only underlines why I hate them so very much.  Good to see they conducted themselves with greater dignity this time around, so that's to their credit.

So disappointed.  Even worse considering opposition.  Hope Klose scores two in the 3rd/4th playoff.  Off to drown myself in the bath.

Spain relentless and too good. Germans put together one decent attacking move the whole game, the rest was just hopeful stuff and trying to keep the Spanish out.

Spain heavy favourites in the final, at least for me.

And should they win .....

Spain (probably) winning this year.  Italy won 4 years ago.  Brazil won 4 years further back.

Yeah, much more enjoyable watching the Germans park 9 men on top of the box and getting more than 2 men over the halfway line once every 15 minutes.

By saying 'it all' it'd probably show I dislike Spain.  Maybe throw Brazil, Italy, Portugal and one or two others in as well.  That really isn't that much.

Spain clearly better of what I see, Inestia and Xavi far superior offensively and in fact let down by poor decision making by their strikers.

Spain played very well. In the beginning of the first half they pressured Germany very well and made it hard for them to play out. Forced them into blind alleys. Jansen coming on was a good move as it gave Germany more penetration on the left where they had struggled with Boateng, though who was excellent in defence. Just felt the German's lacked composure in that final 15min, to quick to lump it into the box from deep positions and with not as much as a midfield to pick off any knock downs. Would have liked to have seen Jansen and Lahm crossing from wider and more attacking areas.

In the end the best team won. At least got one more game to look forward too.

 
well as i said, i felt the game as a whole was underwhelming, i have some dislike for watching the spanish, i do not know why, but the germans play was disapointing aswell so i personally didnt enjoy the game

I thought Spain were brilliant, and brilliant to watch too. I love that possession play and their almost telepathic midfield.

Kwailtee. Don't really know how to describe how happy I am right now. Really need to win the final!! Pedrito... PASS TO TORRES! What an idiot. Other than that, Germany were awful.. Hardly deserved to be on the same pitch. Great performacne. Say what you like, but we bossed them. They hardly saw the ball. Puyol  That is why I have hair like him! Pique went crazy near the end- nothing was getting past him.

in fairness to the Germans (who got shown up today), the way Spain plays, deliberate build up and long spells of possession etc, makes it pretty hard for any opposition not to have 9 or 10 men behind the ball. I dont think the Germans were especially defensively-minded. They tried to get nos forward when they had the ball, but they just werent good enough to get out of their half most of the time.

Not disputing that, but they lined up a block of 8-9 players about 20-25 yards away from goal at most times until they conceded. They don't really attack with huge numbers at any rate(other than on set pieces and retained possession after them) - even against the Argies and English they attacked with 4-5 at most times. They pushed numbers forward when they had to late in the game, but really had no plan or structure to their attack, it was pretty much just hopeful stuff.

But yeah, Spain is really hard to play against, that's why I was so surprised to hear so many people who should have known better pick Germany as favourites to win the game.el grapadura2010-07-08 13:18:30
