There's a major problem with the Asian cup qualifiers in that only 2 of the 9 match days are on FIFA windows, and both of them are the matches that Australia play Oman.  Which is a big issue for Oman, but also means that if Aussie don't win this then it's down to the A-League players to get the job done, and they've been less than convincing.

Could have major implications for Verbeek's job, and also for the WC bid which is prevaricated on Australia being one of Asia's top sides.

Below this golden generation (the guys who are roughly 30) - which I do think it is fair to call a golden generation, there seems to be a bit of a dearth of talent.  The ypunger guys who have gone overseas from the A-League haven't really cracked and a lot of guys have been tried without ever really stamping their mark

Re James Dean point about the depth in Aus football, there was an article about that point exactly on Soccernet. Basically saying what you were, Australia will have one of the most consistent sides from the last world cup to this one but behind that isn't a whole lot for 2014 considering most of this side will be past it or retired.

Wouldn't be much money in Oman leagues, probably Saudi but not many of them play there.  Plus there is something to be said for the A-League which is more likely to be seen by Euro scouts than the Saudi league.

Possession game by Australia, definitely looking to just play and grab the space for attack if it present itself. But importantly preventing the other team from possession and scoring . . .

Slater you hypocrite.... if that was in an A-League game you'd be lambasting the referee for not giving a penalty.

Talking about the numbers on their backs now...seems a bit silly having to go into the hundreds with team numbering. Actually good chance for a promo..."what's the number on Your Socceroos Shirt??"

Good opportunity for some spoofs too about the number of players Pim Verbeek needs in the Aussie team.

They'll win this though.  It won't be pretty but they'll get three points.

Smug?

Amazingly I still think Oz is underestimating the other Asian nations. Lots of pseudo "we're not taking this game lightly" comments coming out of the camp but everyone still expected them to win at a canter.

Well a OK win for Australia considering that they had played holland just days ago. The only disappointment although not a surprised is Slaters commentary efforts.

A few points:

1) I was not at the game so don't blame me for the sh*te atmosphere!
2) Super Tim's goal celebration was top drawer!!! Brought a tear to Mr Cooper's eye I tell thee!
3) 1st Rule of fight club....
4) I will take an extremely ugly 3 points over an immaculate draw any day of the week!!!

The Green and Gold army offering all the atmosphere of a wake.

Hi mate (The World game boys say hello to you), the Green and Gold army is largely irrelavent now, as mot soccer supporters can now support a team week in week out in the A-League.

They are offering travel packages to South Africa, but are charging a mint.

At the game, I sat above them, besides waving the same colours, they didn't do much. They have lost a bit of their 'aura' fom 4-5 years ago.

When are you coming back to TWGF for a post, the boys there hold you in high regard.
