Interesting... you may be onto something. In this interview during the Wynnegate saga, he says he's not sure if he's eligible.

If his mum or grandparent wasn't born in NZ he could still be eligible if he was entitled to be a citizen from birth. Ie she was a NZ citizen other than by descent when he was born.

Interesting... you may be onto something. In this interview during the Wynnegate saga, he says he's not sure if he's eligible. If he doesn't have any NZ lineage then this is even more of a stuff-up by NZF than the Wynne error, as it's super clear in the Statutes that to qualify via parents or grandparents, they MUST have been born here, and it's impossible not to misread it! 

It could be possible that his mum has a NZ passport due to residency or other means other than her or her parents being born here...

If he doesn't have any NZ lineage then this is even more of a stuff-up by NZF than the Wynne error, as it's super clear in the Statutes that to qualify via parents or grandparents, they MUST have been born here, and it's impossible not to misread it.
