Yorkshire Evening Post wrote:

That is not to say Wood’s goal scoring has been too negatively impacted. Wood has bagged four times in his nine appearances for Leeds, a decent rate for a centre forward.

Furthermore, Wood’s conversion rate of goals from his strikes is 17.4 per cent, only a slight drop on the percentage of his attempts that hit the target. That suggests that while he is not often accurate, when he is, his strikes tend to hit the back of the net......

Wood has been integral to Leeds’ system this season, playing the lone striker role demanded by Rosler’s preference for a 4-3-3 formation well.

He’s won 45.16 per cent of his aerial duels this campaign, which allows him to bring Leeds’ wingers and midfielders into play in the final third. Wood has created 12 chances for those players, fulfilling the creative aspect of his role.

These kinds of stats are interesting but pretty much meaningless without a context for them. Maybe he's instructed to shoot from distance more often by his coach. Maybe he ends up isolated with no other options more often than other strikers because of his team's tactics, so he shoots from tough angles. Maybe he actually isn't a particularly accurate striker but he gets himself in shooting positions more often than another, more accurate, striker might - so if you swapped them the actual number of goals would be the same.

From what I can tell too that stat is measuring accuracy as shots/shots on target, not shots/goals, but the "on target" measure is in itself misleading - a mis-hit shot which goes straight at the middle of the goal and is easily gathered by the keeper is counted as on target, but one which beats the keeper and cannons back off the post is off target, when the second one was a lot closer to being a goal than the first one.

Also, you probably wouldn't expect someone who's taken a lot of shots to be close to the top of the table for accuracy, because the players with the best shot accuracy will be guys who've only had one or two shots and they've all been on target, and then the guys who've had 2 from 3 on target will be next, and so on. I'd be interested to know where the other guys who are near the top of the total shots list compare to Wood in the accuracy ratings.

From the game on the weekend

"To their credit Leeds fought back well, and after Liam Cooper flicked on a free-kick from Alex Mowatt to equalise, they could have gone in ahead at half-time had the striker Chris Wood not missed a simple free header from another deft Mowatt ball"

Rosler said: "Things are just not going for us at the moment. There were three key moments in the game. They scored from their first attack and I feared the worst but we showed terrific character and got a quick equaliser.

"The second key moment was when Chris Wood didn't take his unbelievable opportunity. The game looked like ending 1-1 so we brought on Mirco Antenucci and Will Buckley to try and win it but the third key moment was Liam Cooper's injury, leaving us with 10 men."

Don't get me wrong I want Chris to succeed as much as anyone, but the Yorkies are starting to get titchy.

Wood converts a penalty (just) to level things up in a 1-1 draw v Fulham at Craven Cottage. He was substituted 6 minutes later due to an injury (hope it's not too serious!).

This going to affect him? Hardly seems like a solid club to be joining- one where the owner has a reputation for chewing through managers and getting suspended. Plus the guy who signed him and believed in him gone.

Doesn't matter if it effects him or not, that manager will be gone in a few months anyway.

You'd think with the amount they invested in him that they will try and make it work.

Might even have a good effect if there's a new manager bump on results.

Leeds definitely a basket case but he is their marquee man so should play when fit. He's always going to miss a few, but if he keeps going at the current rate (1 every 2 games) that's 20 for the season and that's pretty good for a team in 18th.

While we all wish he was a Premiership regular, he compares extremely well with other Kiwi kids who went to the UK as a teenager and got a "contract". From Pearce and Christie to Pelter, Lindsay, Milne et al, plus all the others who trialled unsuccessfully, 99% of our guys who go there come back with next to nothing.

When fit and playing he scores goals, and he's not yet 24. Maybe we can pick him as an overage player for Rio......

LEEDS APPOINT LOONY BLOKE FROM DOWN THE PUB AS MANAGER

"He also has a reputation for dodgy dealings and a conviction for tax evasion so should fit in well with Leeds' Italian owner, the fraudster/tax evader Cellino. They'll be able to swap war stories on those long trips to away games."

On the same day as hiring Evans, it was announced by the Football League that Leeds Owner Massimo Cellino had been disqualified as Leeds Owner after failing the Owners & Directors Testfor the second time in a year.

How many goals do you think he needs in a season for a EPL move ? I don't think it will come this season but it would be nice to have a EPL striker leading into a WC qualifier

How many goals will Leeds need to get promotion? Going up with a club is his only chance to get back into the Premiership

Fairly easy strike.

Good to see Wood back on the score sheet, but neither him nor Leeds will be in the EPL next season.

If you read the Leeds match threads on their forum - most aren't happy with him even when he scores and they win..

Lots of complaints about him being slow, languid and not able to win headers etc. Basically all of our complaints. Wastes a lot of chances too.

Yorkshire is just one huge heaving shire of complaint and they wont be happy until he is superman - but it is easy to get grumpy when you watch him scuff chances. Fingers crossed he is about to hit another of his over the top purple patches

From what I've seen, their criticism's are pretty valid though.

For me it's all to do with how he looks and how he plays being two very different things. You'd expect him, as a gigantic bloke, to win a lot of headers and hold the ball up well. He's not great at either.

I think his biggest asset generally is his link in play, when he receives the ball, he lays it off and generally makes intelligent runs, whether to get the ball back or to stretch the defence.

Chris interviewed on BBC Radio last week after the 1-0 home loss to Rotherham on that game, how things are at Leeds and whether he regrets signing:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p038qyb3

1-0 away loss at QPR this morning in which "Chris Wood blazed Leeds' best chance over from a narrow angle":

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/34887085

QPR completely dominant and Leeds had only about four chances the whole game:

Chris had two chances:

25:57

Attempt missed. Chris Wood (Leeds United) right footed shot from the left side of the six yard box is high and wide to the right. Assisted by Liam Cooper following a set piece situation.

86:05

Attempt missed. Chris Wood (Leeds United) right footed shot from outside the box is too high. Assisted by Lewis Cook.

The Leeds manager said afterwards that they didn't score because they "don't have a six yard striker."
