It’s such a team game as well.

My favourite two short videos I’ve seen of late were Henry’s account of Wenger talking to Henry and getting him to think about players on his team, what kind of runs they made  and how they liked to receive the ball. Even a player as gifted as that.

Another was Rooney talking about Sir Alex laying down the law to him and all the other attacking players when Robin Van Persie came in.
“Find him or I won’t play you” he said “Find him and he’ll win us the league.”

Wood’s time at Leeds everything went to him. At Burnley most of his goals were assists from a couple of chaps- McNeil and one other guy. At Newcastle he rarely got good service imo and so he didn’t score much. At Forest he’s started scoring once Gibbs-White and Elanga started to look for his runs. And that last a classic example- a brilliant (no look?) pass from Gibbs-White between the two defenders that Wood tucks away.

Nelsen’s leadership at the World Cup and overall through that period where he flew the flag for a troubled professional game in New Zealand have to be considered. Was he involved in the win against Serbia too? That and the Italy result are surely our best results so far.

I have to say as well for influential All Whites Shane Smeltz and Winston Reid (and Rory I suppose!) had key important inspirational moments that perhaps Wood hasn’t had in White despite the longevity of his career. If he’d landed the winner against Italy, though!
