His chance will come again and if he cant get back on the pitch for Portland he will have other opportunities soon enough.
My understanding is that Gleeson does very well in the reserves. I believe last season in the NSL reserves the timbers had a perfect winning streak with a massive contribution on his behalf..
As for Perkins, I think he did well with some of the shots taken at him from L.A, It was inevitable he'd go back to first keeper after recovering from a knee sprain. i remember watching him a few times when he was playing for D.C back in 06/07, he made some phenomenal saves.
Timbers are quite spoilt for keepers imo.
thought one of his other saves was better. cant remember who against, final minutes, reaction save to tip it onto the crossbar
Yeah, he made a much better save the following week in a home win against FC Dallas - last minute to protect their 3-2 lead.
Troy Perkins has played 7 times for the US in the past two years. He would have been quite a big signing for Portland. I dont think there was any question he would be given the starting spot back - esp as he didnt lose it due to form but to injury. But still a great step for Gleeson. At the age of 20? he now has MLS experience, a high profile and a good rep. His chance will come again and if he cant get back on the pitch for Portland he will have other opportunities soon enough.
what ML said ^

Am thinking Gleeson may be starting against San Jose in the U.S cup on Tueday.
Talk of a reserve looking team mainly starting against them, Apparently San Jose have a lot of travel to do before the match.Azevo2011-04-30 12:03:41

First clean sheet for Portland in 1-0 win over RSL. Gleeson on the bench.
Herald article on "snake"

"His path to the Wellington Phoenix was blocked.. He barely got a run for Team Wellington in the NZFC. And he didn't qualify for a scholarship to a US college because he had neglected his studies towards the end of his high school years because of football."
was it because we had enough goal keepers at the time?

Not in the Reserves game match against Sounders, might have been a good thing, they lost 3-2.
Sporting success runs in the family. Jake's uncle is Joe Schmidt who just coached the Leinster rugby team to the Heineken Cup in his first year as head coach.
Gleeson talking about the last 2 friendlies, and his 20 mins on the pitch, woop:

now it's luis esteves who recently joined portland u23: hopefully he can be able to convince the first team like jake did...
Unbelievably beautiful goal from Darlington Ngabe for Portland over Kansas.
See it for yourself.
Gleeson played the last 45 min of the Portlands game against Club America, lost 1-0 but Gleeson kept a clean sheet in his half.
Gleeson on bench against Westbrom atm, might get subbed on at half-time like the match against Club America.
Wooh, Gleeson on for Brown.
Penalty Kick taken by WBA, luckily they missed, Gleeson went the other way to where the shot was going, still has a clean sheet. heh.
nvm, Morrison the penalty taker made up for it with a long range shot getting a goal. hahaAzevo2011-07-21 16:30:07
2-2 now, Gleeson has let 2 through now, disappointing for him. He could of had them both easily.
Played the second half on a 2-0 win vs Independiente:
Portland Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson lay on the ground in complete anguish after giving up a goal in the 75th minute against the Vancouver Whitecaps in a reserve match Sunday afternoon.
Gleeson is on twitter now! @JGleeson20
In Major league Soccer, Michael Boxall and Jake Gleeson were both on the bench as their respective Whitecaps and Timbers sides met in Vancouver.

Vote for Jake for MLS save of the year. Lets get him through
No way I could vote for that save when it is just regulation and there is way better saves in that group
who cares, just vote for one of our own mate

Fans of the Portland Timbers learned early on in the season that the Rose City side was lucky enough to have acquired two great goalkeepers. Although Adin Brown has a decent career behind him and is a capable 'keeper, he's not up to the same standard Troy Perkins and Jake Gleeson. When you combine Perkins and Gleeson, the Timbers have a very nice one-two punch in front of goal. There's a reason both have saves that are in contention for MLS Save of the Year.

Portland have a deal with Montreal, which will see L'Impact not select any Timbers players. Keeping Gleeson in the Rose City

Here's an interview a few weeks back on Portland public broadcast.

Timbers players are officially off duty, having just completed post-season training. New Zealander Jake Gleeson is looking forward to 2012 when he hopes to get a little more time on the field. At the moment, the 21-year-old is the team's backup goalie. He was recruited from a youth soccer team in New Zealand two years ago. He already had his eye on the U.S. after garnering interest from some college recruiters, but he decided to put off school when he got the chance to go pro

Adin brown has been waived making gleeson clearly the number 2 GK. Same thing happened for boyens and elliott who hopefully could be picked up by another team
No surprise about that, I thought he definitely proved his worth with the games he played at the start of the season. Some truly amazing saves he pulled of, yet made some amateurish mistakes to let goals in.
Gleeson back in town, was at TW game yesterday. Story in dom post but no online version? basically saying he's aiming for the olympic team.
