3rd kiwi on Souths list this season. confirmed signed for us today. absolutely wrapped with this signing.
Jason Hicks (Melbourne Knights | Australia)
3 kiwi's you say ;-)
1 Kiwi, 1 Aussie and a Pom ain't it?
Nah, Hicks is a good player and I hope he does bloody well for you. I would have loved to see him picked up by an Aussie A-League team but it's hard to justify an import slot on him.
Some on here thing he's not that great but I thought he really developed and took his game to another level here at the Nix but just didn't get enough of a run.
Good luck to him.
hope he can bang in some goals for you and make a few killer passes
im expecting nothing lesson from him. very excited about this signing. think he will give us the x factor to take us one step further this season
educated left foot
While Hicks struggled to get consistent game time he showed enough to suggest he wasn't out of place in the A League- technically if not physically. It amazes me how NZF have written off these over 21's and putting so much faith in Lewis and co who don't stand out in the ASB for me. Same goes for players like Musa.
While stuff all people are watching the ASB on SKY (until it hopefully gathers momentum) it does demonstrate the level is actually ok and not light years behind the A League.
Good luck to Hicks- I hope he goes well and pushes on.
Very good at playing short quick passes and getting the game moving quicker. Seems okay from the set piece too. Will do well at SMFC.

not sure to be honest. id expect him to be one of the highest paid players coming from an a league club and another country but its very hard to say.
I had a mate who was playing for Heidleberg a few years ago when I worked in Melbourne. He was getting $10k per season. South Melbourne a bigger club but wouldnt be heaps more than that would it?

I know a guy from Christchurch who played a handful of games for the All Whites in the 1990's and played national league before being picked up by a state league club in Oz in the 1990's for $A 60,000 a year. He was well chuffed because he had a day job over there at the same time.
If you're seen as a star player in your team, the money can be very good.

Wow....good money. He could earn double that as a 'coach' at Auckland City
lol 10k a season thats shark all. typical berger scum. nah we have around 6 players on full time pro contracts, then highest paid will get like 1200 per week/ match at most.
Started for the Knights in a 1-1 draw vs Green Gully tonight
Started in a 6-1 loss to Heidelberg United tonight.
An assist in a 2-1 win tonight
Started in a 1-1 draw this weekend

Sign him up
I think Jason should have been kept on. Maybe he'll reappear again for us in the future.... or worse score the winner for Melbourne against us in the Cup!
1-0 win this weekend, Hicks with the winner.

Second half not far away! #MKFC #PS4NPLVIChttps://t.co/R3UtwPXRNv
Seems to be scoring regularly. Thought he was a little unlucky to get another contract.
I would have liked to see him try to make a fist of it overseas for a while before going to play in the state leagues... lack of confidence or connections??
Lack of ability more like it. Guy was dropped from the Nix, pretty hard to go from getting dropped to getting picked up by a club in Europe i'd say!
watson got a gig, plus the A League has a decent reputation now.
So why didn't Ramon want him back?
Pays better being a pro in a league that is officially semi pro rather than a pro in a league that is officially amateur? Or he's in the shopping window of A-League teams playing in Australia rather than in NZ?
No idea. But Ramon would have his number from when he played with ACFC prior to joining Nix, and he never returned after he was cut.
Informed speculation.
i always rated hicks. fast with good feet and a good pass.
and i think in hindsight his release was premature. he would have been a lot more effective than the squad players that we had to call upon this year
Sounds like completely uninformed speculation in reality.

Ahhhh, Jason Hicks, an Ex-Rover!
Glenfield Rovers!
Hicks is a poor mans WeeMac, who himself has been a poor version of himself this season.

I think Weemac has been pretty good the last few weeks actually, and isn't he very left footed?
He plays on the left but he's right footed. I think Doyle and Danoskos are the only left footed players in our squad?
