A move to Indonesia doesn’t exactly signal that he’s getting things back on track... but it doesn’t come as a surprise either considering how his father, John Herdman, is the current coach of the Indonesian national team. He’ll also link up there with Aussie midfielder Brandon Wilson who played a few games for the Wellington Phoenix a few years back. Bali United have finished eighth in each of the past two seasons. They won the Super League as recently as 2021-22 though. The knock on Herdman seems to be that he’s not particularly creative as an attacking midfielder... and lacks the physical traits to make up for that. He can cross and he can shoot but he doesn’t dribble or play incisive passes. In a league like Indonesia’s, he should have the freedom to be himself rather than getting pigeon-holed into a predetermined role that doesn’t fit.
