Libby might be a different player if in a more dominate team.

His greatest attribute is his attack, something that is hard to show in a team battling relegation every year.

Look at McTominey!

So from those two games I'd say Croc, Surman, Bindon, Bell all did the most did get noticed by other teams. Libby and Marko didn't put in good shifts too.

Just has moments of class but just seems too light weight for this level of football.

Waine and Singh missed their chance perhaps..

Crocombe is an interesting one. Had a top game today, and apparently Burton Albion have offered him a new deal, but he hasn't yet accepred it??

But always that risk as a keeper in moving clubs, you could spend a long time, even a whole season on the pine. He won't want that 12 months before a World Cup.

Most European windows open 1st July, but the UK I think is earlier on 16th June.

While people may think he could do better, I wonder if Bells next stop may be a decent deal in the MLS. Would be a step up from his current league and he obviously knows America well from his studies there. Appreciate he decided to make a go of it in Europe rather then MLS initially but the dollars may not have been flash for him back then.

Bell has a British passport, and it was rumoured some Championship clubs among other Euro teams were recently watching Viking games.

Someone said Viking fans on their socials are re-signed to the fact, he will be leaving again at some point. I'm sure he'd love to have a crack at UK football.

Have a little hunch that his heavy workrate game suits cooler temperate climes. Not so good in the heat against Mexico last year, or at the Olympics in sweltering summertime France. That would possibly make the MLS a bit unattractive.

Barnsley wanted him back when Brøndby picked him up, but they’re back down in League One now, which I think is below his level.

Edit: we’ve mentioned Des being a lifeline for the likes of Singh and Waine before, but if he gets the Cardiff job then Bell could be a great pick up for them.

Get him in the pivot with Alex Robertson ahead of him, he’d be cooking.

Second edit: just remembered Cardiff got relegated…

Bell is definitely Championship quality and I would've loved to have seen him at Cardiff if we hadn't got relegated. As much as I'd love it from a Kiwi perspective, I'd hope Waine and Singh don't get linked with us. Cardiff is kinda like the opposite of the Nix in a way - the hardworking 6s and 8s get plaudits (Robertson, Mannsverk, Siopis, Chambers in that role this season was phenomenal) and the 10s and wingers are the scapegoats who fans really tend to get on the backs of (primarily Colwill, Willock and El Ghazi this season).

Bell would be absolutely loved here, but I think Singh and Waine would feel the heat pretty quick if they didn't kick on.

Also you're right, Bell and Robertson would be magic together.

Not confirmed yet, but I'll just put this here.

Apparently Zac Jones is also coming back to New Zealand. Don't know what to make of that transfer wise. But that's what's out there being mentioned.

Zac Jones back to NZ?

Auckland have enough keepers. So an Oluwayemi mutual release and Jones returns to the Nix, to battle it out with AKH?

Or there will soon be (likely) two new NZ pro clubs with the OFC Pro League to launch in about 6 months. But those clubs/franchises haven't even been announced yet.

James McGarry to join Brisbane Roar to help his case for 2026 World Cup selection.

He'd have to have an absolute fudgeing ripper of a season to get his name back in the frame tbh.

Too many injuries. I'd rather Wilkins, but he has the same issue.

Maybe Michael Valkanis can repeat the magic dust trick, that Nick Montgomery sprinkled on McGarry for half a season. We just want as many Kiwi footballers as possible starting at a decent level, and his career has been so injured plagued, stop start, he deserves a good run somewhere.

Arzani to Hungary seems underwhelming

Meanwhile, former Jets, Wellington Phoenix and Central Coast Mariners left-back James McGarry is hoping to join Brisbane Roar in a bid to kickstart his bid for selection in New Zealand’s squad for next year’s World Cup.

Negotiations are continuing between McGarry’s current club, Scottish outfit Aberdeen, and the Roar, but it’s expected the 27-year-old defender – who spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Greek club Athens Kallithea – will soon be confirmed as a Brisbane player.

McGarry is only 27?? He’s already packed so much into his career. He could have 6-7 more years if he keeps fit enough.

Latest from Italy say that both Cagliari and newly promoted Pisa have shown an interest in Libby.
Had he gone to Cagliari, he would have been reunited with Davide Nicola who worked a little miracle with Empoli two seasons ago, helping them to avoid relegation on the last game of the season. But the coach has left the Sardinian side after only one year.

Neither transfer piques my interest too much. There's still talk of Roma (noting we are selling our starting LB Angelino), but what I'd really like is for Libby to play for a mid Serie A team, like Torino or similar, not for a team like Roma where his chances would be few and far between. And not for another outfit that will be fighting to avoid relegation.

Cacace still linked with Cagliari and Pisa, but now also Cremonese. Apparently Roma is also meeting with Empoli's sporting director to discuss possible moves for Libby and Tino Anjorin.

In the last couple of hours there's also been a few rumours popping up about interest from OGC Nice.

Roma just sacked their sporting director (though at least we have a coach) so transfers may not happen until a new one is signed.
I'll check out the Just to Spezia rumours. Serie B would be a great step up for Eli

Summary of the latest rumours out of Italt:
  • Libby: the strongest interest for him seems to be from Cagliari and Cremonese. Pisa, Roma and Lazio might be interested, but not as much
  • Niko Kirwan: no news. He's left Padova but no concrete offers as of yet
  • Eli Just: no evidence of an interest from Spezia at all. Possibly too good to be true - I rate Just, but not sure he's at that level yet

Just looking at some potential championship loan options for Bindon and Marko.

Coventry were in for Marko permanently before he signed for Forest.

Coventry, hull and Watford all apparently were all interested in Bindon last year.

Maybe a Coventry double loan coming?

Yeah I think there will be a few AWs in The Championship this season. Wouldn't be a shock if Joe Bell ended up in the English 2nd tier.

I think Coventry were also rumoured to be interested in Kees Sims, plus Henry Gray is on Ipswich's books. Paulsen? A January 2026 transfer for Surman?
Even McCowatt who finished the season with Silkeborg strong will be on some radars.

Meanwhile, if you want more of the kiwi transfer goss, the scuttlebutt if you will, then best check out our Substack newsletter every Monday and Thursday which has a Transfer Tracker section exactly for those purposes. Here’s the most recent - think of it like a companion piece to these Flying Kiwis yarns.

This was a big week of transfers but the next few shape to be even bigger with the likes of Liberato Cacace, Eli Just, Matthew Garbett, Sarpreet Singh, and others with their futures still to be determined. Half the damn Football Ferns squad are coming off contract in a few days.

The odds of Garrow getting a contract somewhere must be pretty good. Maybe even at Boca!

I think at the last U20 WC in Argentina, Roa Conchie was playing so well there were wild rumours Boca were going to sign him or some such.

However from the highlights I saw Garrow had 2 really good games. Got lucky with his punches as they always seemed to land near an ACFC defender. But athletic and fast to come out and shut down an attacker. One to watch.

The Nix seem to have more potential GK vacancies than Auckland.

Kirwan to Trento rumour coming out of Italy today. Trento play in Serie C (same group that Padova won last season) and finished joint 6th last year.
Not the most exciting of transfer rumour, but it's a decent level and close to the family home (his mum if from Treviso which is less than two hours away). Shame he won't be in Serie B after playing an important part in last season's promotion, but that's the reality of football.

You would think so, unless he has a stellar season and a couple of AWs lose their form or get injured.
He has been playing on the right a lot the last couple of seasons, so he could make a case to play on either side of the defense

If Stamenic wants to play in the EPL, to me being in The Championship makes more sense than Greece.

Thats as long as the Swansea genuinely want him, and he'll get plenty of playing time. The Swans were 11th last season, 7 pts off the playoff spots.

I'd be excited if there were 3-5 AWs in the English 2nd tier this season.  It's a tough respected league. Crocombe, Bindon & Stamenic. Maybe Bell & McCowatt. You can see Surman there as soon as next year. Paulsen maybe. Gray is contracted to Ipswich, though down their GK list.

A few Aussie fans and commentators would take the AWs a bit more seriously in Sept if some of the above players were in The Championship by then. Same the casual NZ football fan/Euro snob.

Bit of a low-key announcement this one, but it's news hot off the press nonetheless - Matt Dibley-Dias is off to League Two side Chesterfield FC.

Hopefully it goes better than his injury affected dud time at Northampton.

He got a mention by Bazeley last week on the Unused Subs podcast. Baze was just throwing names out there, but he commented on MDD as an example of a guy who could yet break into the WC squad. Like others in that position they need to get to a reasonable club level and be playing.

Loan or transfer? TBH League 2 should not get you in the AWs as it's no better then the A League at best and at times quite a bit worse.

You state the obvious. He was at Fulham not Chesterfield when Baze just used him as an example of the sort of player who could yet force his way in.

Regardless an injury to Bell, Stamenic or Rufer and MDD is in the conversation. Hopefully he goes well in L2. Surely he’s giving up now on England, Portugal and Brazil
