Just been watching back the second half. I’d watched the first live.
From around 60 minutes Empoli have the bulk of the possession and it is a very busy 10 minutes for Cacace.
It looks like many attacks are being built through him. He plays one very nice pass to the feet of the striker, puts a good cross in and gets up and down the line. He also completes two or three composed and formidable pieces of defense, winning possession.
70 to 80 equally involved with a shot blazed over off his right after cutting into the box and a good cross hung up at the back post.
This isn’t top of the table stuff, but his body language and those of his teammates around him suggest that this isn’t someone tentative about his presence at this level.
The level of opposition is different, he’s got a lot of space and close control isn’t as required, but really he was one of the players who drove Empoli forward to that result. He played a range of progressive passes and wanted the ball.
The improvement between that performance and earlier more cagey ones is notable. All that was missing to cap it was a direct involvement in a goal for Empoli- but it didn’t seem that far off.
Very exciting stuff for kiwi fans to see.
