If his end goal is to play in the EPL, signing for a Championship club like Wrexham or Sheffield U (earlier rumours) makes some sense.

Maybe he feels his Serie A ambitions have been met. He's never likely to play for a top 6 club (Champions League qualification) like his boyhood dream choice Napoli. Maybe what he'd like to do before it's too late, is try play in the EPL??
