Any major comp would be aawesome, but i would like a prem club.
Simply because watching him play would be easier and it would gain more media traction here which would be good for the game.

Won goal of Round 9 on Aleague website.
Also seems a popular choice for the All Stars XI

I'd really like to see him stay in the league next year, absolutely crush it, and then go somehwere where he is starting. Look at Kosta who probably left a season too early. His career has really hit the skids sadly

Agreed.
I think it's a bit too early to say that Kosta's career has 'hit the skids', he's still pretty young and has time to work his way back up to a starting spot in a decent league imo. But I agree with you about Marco hanging around a bit longer. Imagine how 'two time Johnny Warren medal winner' would look on a cv.

Making money? In Greece? You sure?

I think the thought is that they'd then get picked up by a bigger club. But you've got to take your opportunities when they arise. Of he'd gone to Russia/Greece and does really well, his career could go forward again. The A league can always be a fall back option which would hopefully give you back some lost 'career momentum' later if need be.
think we've seen a few aussies coming back to the league after "failing" in europe. Vidosic for example.
Think Kosta should be our number 1 offseason priority.
And he could probably play in a 433.. lol

Man,killer goals and top game.K1W1
Easily Johnny Warren medalist so far. (though FFA will probably give it Del Piero, just because) Have to say - can't begrudge his move now; it's working out for him. I think last year we were all pissed just because it looked like his development had been completely stalled under their previously inept coaching regime - Mehm shouldn't even be coaching under 13's.
What a couple of goals though - brilliant. Between Wood , Brockie and Rojas we've got some pretty special goals this year.
2nd one reminded me of Henry or Bergkamp.
Think Marco should stay until the end of the season then assess his options. Maybe he can go join Wood at Leicester..
The first goal was good but many players can hit a long range like that if they have enough pops at goal. But that second goal was top class, not many could pull off something like that, real instinctive.
people are getting a bit carried away with Marco. Needs to see out the season and possibly another one. Kosta left a year too early as well
hopefully what marco has done leads to outer a league clubs looking at NZ talent

It would be awesome if he was to sign in Spain or Portugal.
I agree. He eventually needs to move to a league where they play free-flowing technical football. He'd be ruined by playing in England with it's kick-and-rush and it's vigorous play. Even Italy or Holland would be good options.
be ruined by playing in England
Think hes not up to it?
He'll end up in holland ala oar

personally I hope he ends up in the Bundesliga, think he'd be ideal there. He would only be okay in england if he played in the epl, anything lower and he would get hacked down all day long.

A lot of those things are also said of the A league mind you. Granted the EPL is at a higher level.

The world seems vast for him.
If he can do it, be good if it happened.
I was thinking about this last night actually. Where is his next move?
I was trying break it down into strengths (for him its his pace, dribbling, and fearlessness) and weaknesses (lack of defensive work and strength on the ball) and thought instantly, that would rule him out of England. I would suspect Holland where his passing game would go well or perhaps Spain where they roam with the ball at feet but as an import, would he catch on being a high profile league?
Its a good discussiong and Stratten makes some brilliant points. The referees allow more physicality in the EPL in terms of upper body and really only police the waist down. In the A League, the referees struggle to police anything with the exceptions of the Strebs, O'Leary's, Green, Williams. Also in Marco's defence, in the position he plays, all the fuckwit defenders that would slay him are no longer around. Most of the assholes play in midfield (Burns etc)

Any chance of Italy?
Serie A wouldn't be a terrible option, and I had once read that he once meet Ivan Zamarano through a family friend who I know at one point did some scouting for Inter. It would be good if we had a player who succeeded in Italy, Spain, or Germany as it would probably open up the chances of future moves to one of those leagues by other NZers whereas currently our players are not even on the radar anywhere but England.

I wasn't really suggesting that a move to Inter was possible, but rather I was pointing out that he may have connections through Zamorano to Italy. Stylistically speaking Roma would be a great club for Marco though
Serie A actually has a rule where sides can only pick up one Non-EU player per season unless a current non-EU player leaves which complicates things. There is a similar rule in Spain.
Also, he might have a slightly higher profile in Italy already because of the ADP connection with the A League. Although Sydney's games this season haven't exactly been a great advertisement for A League football.
Melbourne Victory coach Ange Postecoglou says he is not worried about the contract situation involving young gun Marco Rojas.
"Will he go overseas? I'm sure he will at some stage, maybe even his holidays this year. It's not something that is at the forefront of my attention right now.

Personally I think he needs another season and a half in the a league to develop physically, but saying that I would love it if a Spanish or Italian club picked him up in the transfer window as it would be new and interesting following those leagues with a kiwi playing.
