Sounds like the Posh chairman thinks he still could be sold into the Championship this transfer window, even with his current hammy injury.
Or maybe he's tried to talk up his value for a selling club like Peterborough.

He’s not expected to return until after the transfer window closes but it’s touch and go.

On the topic of jersey numbers, curious to see that when Peterborough announced theirs they didn’t give one to Matt Garbett. There was a note that “players who are currently injured” can be registered with a number at any stage and that obviously applies to Garbs, who wore the #28 jersey last season (which has been left vacant). Thing is, Garbs usually tries to get his hands on the #7 jersey and they’ve given that one to a new signing from out of the Sunderland academy. Could be an indicator that they don’t expect him to stay beyond this window. Or it could mean nothing at all. He’s still at least another month away from getting on the pitch, far enough away that there’s no set timeline yet. Peterborough won 1-0 against Bristol Rovers in their EFL Cup first-rounder.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony: “We have discussed getting a new number 10 in but Matty Garbett is due back in the country next week. We’re not actually playing with a 10 right now as it’s more of a 4-3-3, but I’d love to see the best version of Matty playing behind Harry Leonard. One club does want to buy Matty but I’m not sure they’ll pay enough so we will probably keep him and he could be fit to play at the end of September. I’m sure Matty would be incentivised to get the move he wants by playing well for us for three months until the next transfer window. Or if we are flying and he is flying he could stay until next summer. He’s on a three year contract so there’s no rush for him. If he does go we will have something up our sleeve. It’s just a case of reacting to anything that happens.”

Probably cutting it a wee bit too fine for him to be in contention for the All Whites after several months off but remember that League One clubs like Peterborough play through the international window. And if MacAnthony’s now talking about a return in late-September during that window that means that Garbett is progressing slightly quicker than previously assumed. Obviously that’s a chairman’s opinion not a physio’s but MG is heading back to England this week so all is on track.

However, Posh chairman quoted in an interview with ‘Peterborough Telegraph’ yesterday:

"Matty Garbett is on a two-week training course somewhere near St George’s Park which is really intense. He should be back with us for the last two days of September and then he should be fit to go the following week.”

The Posh chairman is certainly an open book!
They are currently 21st (4th from bottom) but he seems very bullish on their chances this season.

Garbs did that hard arse football specific boot camp last year in Bali, before signing for Peterborough. Sounds like he might be doing similar this time in the UK, to get himself football match fit as quickly as possible, after that bad hammy tear.
