I thought the coach had gone on record as saying it wasn't the disciplinary issues and rather due to a lack of progress on Garbett's part.
Could just be PR, but it's also pretty clear cut statement from the coach
Carl Hoefkens (Breda coach): “It is a decision that has not been taken lightly. For me it was taken on the basis of returns on the football field. We want to continue to take the next steps in certain positions. Matthew has a lot of potential but I don’t think his development has been sufficient since the start of the season. And I want to make it clear once again that I have no problem with him. Of course I think he is a top guy. But purely football, in his position, it has been insufficient for me so far.”

Yeah, you’re right about the PR slant. Seems he packed a sad about not being guaranteed starting minutes, a choice made by Hoefkens because of the reasons stated, and Garbett left them with no choice.
Doesn’t seem like on-field returns were a big issue from afar - NAC fans seem to like him, and he’s only 22
"NAC fans seem to like him"
Still have big respect for Breda's fans for standing by Garbett after being wrongly accused, and making the banner, that was just awesome to see.
