Fantastic news for Myer who has signed, pending his ITC, with Vancouver Whitecaps 2. He joins Francis de Vries & Deklan Wynne there, and Ben McKendry who's contracted to the first team.
He'll be joining them after the U20 World Cup.

What's the connection here that has led to so many Kiwis signing?

Could be Andrew Peat?

Good on him, but we shouldn't get too excited, he's effectively signed for a development squad.
Some more articles here:
Why would MV want to trial a failed youth player who was not good enough to be signed as an apprentice or reserve during his time in the UK that would also take a visa spot (unless he has Aussie parentage)
I hope he does well, and it appears he's going ok, but if he doesn't get a contract by the u20 world cup expects in the SS comp
I can think of 3 reasons now oh short sighted one. You should be a scout for the phoenix with your intuition. Goodluck to him in Portland and at the WC U20s.
How many players from the Nike squad have got pro contracts over the last 5 years.... not many, most end up like that Swedish striker who ended up in NZ this season.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, hes in the second team, lets wait and see if he turns out to be Nelsen (successful) or Payne (see NZFC)
Everything I said still stands, why would Melbourne sign an unproven striker without a single professional game behind him and lose an import spot at the same time?
Good luck to the kid, I wish him a successful pro career and one for NZ.

Rogic is the poster boy - only a handful have got pro deals, and this looks a good chance for him to A, get gametime and B, break through to the firsts.
Some nice good news for NZ football. Bevan cracks his first match day squad for Whitecaps II, though not required off the bench during a 1-2 loss away to Sacramento Republic in the USL.
Of interest I note Bernie Ibini is now playing for the Whitecaps first team. Someone for Bevan to learn off at training?
Francis De Vries hasn't made a Whitecaps II match day squad since late April.

Francis De Vries hasn't made a Whitecaps II match day squad since late April.
Francis had been injured, hence his absence!
Bevan gets his first playing minutes in the USL, subbing on for Ben McKendry at 65mins for Whitecaps II verus OKC Energy. Also picks up his first yellow card as a pro.
De Vries back in the match day squad for Whitecaps II. Not required from the bench.
Bevan, Wynne & De Vries (subbed at half time) all started as Whitecaps II lost 0-2 at home to Seattle Sounders II.
See in an article somewhere that Hudson is looking closely at Bevan & Billingsley for AWs big games later this year.
If he selects Billingsly any positive karma he has built with me will be gone... i'd rather Dyer!

Saw that... its what prompted me to simultaneously weep and shark my pants! An allusive double.
would welcome Myers inclusion as he's got wheels and some instinct. I honestly thought Billingsly was one of the worst U20's. Donkey like comes to mind. Makes some of the over 30 players in my league look like Usain Bolt.
If Hudson stoops that low we are toast.
Bevan has potential and seems to be decent with the ball at feet and has a good header on him. He's certainly shown value.
Bevan on the bench and not required as Whitecaps II draw 2-2 away to Colorado Springs. De Vries & Wynne both played full 90 mins for Whitecaps II.
James still injured it seems, not in Colorado lineup.
Bevan got 30 mins off the bench as Whitecaps II lost 0-1 at home to Swoke Park Rangers. De Vries & Wynne played full 90 mins for Whitecaps II & Musa full 90 for Swoke Park.
Focusing on Bevan in optimistic/forlorn hope that he'll start banging in a few goals, and prove that he could be the next Kiwi striker and valuable backup to Wood. I know he's just a kid but that screamer against Honduras at U20's, sure got everyone excited.
Started and scored his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw:
Good to see both a start and a goal. Upwards and onwards.
True that.Well done

A cut from the report... I'm surprised at the attendance!
The best opportunity in the first half for Whitecaps FC 2 came in the 27th minute when Deklan Wynne came down the sideline and sent a pass to the top of the box for David Norman Jr. The first-year pro connected with a strike but did not find the back of the net. Reno 1868 FC had a few chances as well, their best coming off a free kick in the 34th minute off the foot of Brent Richards. His ball found the head of a man in front but was put just wide of goal.
The second half began the same way the first one ended.
In the 61st minute, Reno had a prime scoring opportunity off a corner kick. The ball was swung into the box where Brandon Griffiths got a clean header on the ball, putting it just over the crossbar.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 73rd minute when USL veteran Dane Kelly fed a pass across the six-yard box to Brian Brown, who placed the ball into the 'Caps net for the 1-0 lead.
Just six minutes later, it was the new kid on the block Bevan getting the ‘Caps on the board. The lead-up to the goal was first class as Nazeem Bartman made a beautiful back pass to Marco Bustos, who one-touched a ball to Bevan, making no mistake on the finish. It was the Kiwi’s first goal with his new club after spending time in England as part of the Nike Football Academy.
WFC2 now have three draws in their last five matches dating back to June 24.
Whitecaps FC 2 are back in action when they visit Orange County SC on Saturday, July 29. They are back home on Wednesday, August 2 when they host Rio Grande Valley FC for a nooner at UBC Thunderbird Stadium. Visit whitecapsfc2.com for tickets.

Referee: Alain Ruch

I think attendance was boosted by some type of fan open day for Whitecaps first team at the ground. No MLS games on the weekend.
Seems WC2 play their home games on some type of artificial turf, and home crowds are usually just a few hundred souls.
Some of the other USL/NASL teams get reasonable Nix sized crowds, esp those sides looking to one day get a MLS licence.
Bevan, Wynne and De Vries all play full 90 mins, as Whitecaps II lose away to Orange County 0-1.
Celebrates his call up by scoring for Whitecaps II in a 3-3 draw, versus Rio Grande

Marinovich is huge compared to those three!
Hahah Deklan was always a goose at school!
For a guy whose job is literally to run outside he's whiter than Casper!
I love Peter Crouch's answer when he got asked what he would be if he wasn't a professional footballer... a virgin.
DeVries... I'm so white I could be...
