Looking at some updates it sounds like he had a shocker moment early on and nearly gave up a goal in the first minute, quote from commentator was "Lucky, lucky boy".

Ends 1-1. A few heavy touches from Stefan but the commentators said he made a good save earlier on.

I've been reading some of the fans Facebook comments which have basically labeled him a disgrace. One person said its one of the worst goal keeping performances he's seen at the club.  I don't expect him to start the next match. If he doesn't prove himself soon he's probably not going to stay much longer, especially once the injured keepers come back.

he's an odd one, every time he plays for NZ he looks the business but when you look at his club record, German 5th (pub) division, on the bench in the MLS and then trials where it seems promising but then he gets overlooked - and not greatly, Rangers opted for a keeper from Barrow (5th tier) over him. Suppose he's odds on for keeping up the NZ tradition of selecting from Unattached FC!

Watched highlights, his saving ability was actually pretty good but handling and especially touch/distribution extremely poor

He played German 4th div for a professional club and was key in getting his side promoted to the fully professional third tier, he was an undoubted MLS starter, and Rangers opted for Firth because he's young and won't be competing for a starting spot just yet. Agree though not good signs at Bristol!

Of course the fans are always right, nor prone to the melodramatic!

No doubt nervous, and would barely know his team mates. Was he to blame for Ipswich's goal?

Are the fans just venting some frustration because a home draw against the bottom side in The Championship, could be costly re Bristol's chances of making the promotion playoffs?

Also wasn't the other keeper on the weekend, who was effectively 'dropped' for Marinovic, an academy graduate? Always going to be more favoured by the fans.

I remember Reid's first game for West Ham was a bit of a shocker, and he got hammered by the fans.

A better UK goal keeping debut than Michael Theo. Conceded seven, as Norwich went down 7-1 to Colchester in a League One game. That was his career in England finished, after one game!

Hopefully Marinovic gets another crack, but bloody difficult coming in cold as a keeper, without any pre season etc. He hasn't played since about October last year!

From what I've read the fans have been angry about the clubs performances for the last few seasons. They have had a recent bad run of form.  I agree I'm sure he's nervous and he hasn't played an official game since he finished with the Whitecaps. The coach said they have a behind closed doors match against Cardiff coming up. Each keeper to get 45mins each to help him decide who should start.

I've never really been a fan of Marinovic.

There is something about him that has looked suspect but I cannot say exactly what. No doubting his shot stopping ability but I think keepers need to *really* excel at that (Vukovic and Kurto) if thats all they offer or if that is not their strongest attribute, it needs to be a very low error rate and offer other things like distribution.

Absolutely agree with all of this. Hope Woud is phased in soon, as though Stefan's a solid option I wouldn't want to see Woud's potential wasted

So lets play a keeper with 0 first team minutes, but with potential over a kiwi keeper who has not let us down in the past and has played at a decent level over the last 18 months... ok - makes sense????

Stefan gets a lot of grief about playing lower tier football in Germany, but the reality is, unlike most young keepers, he was actually playing first team football and getting experience outside of youth games. Has anyone considered he took that option over being a reserve keeper and never getting a chance in a higher league. He has his short comings, but has not let us down. One poor game means nothing, lets see how he improves over the next few weeks.

I believe he said ‘phased in soon’. Woud will stay put for a little while (unless loaned out) for his development but given his quality I’d guess his agent will be looking to find him a club he’s likely to start at if Willem II don’t look like promoting him. The fact he was selected for the Netherlands U19 team to me says he *should* be our starting keeper in a few years time.

Who has watched the game or extended highlights? We're going on second hand sources. If you look good in the championship you could be knocking on the door of the EPL- hard to go from being cut by an MLS team to doing that. Debuted and didn't give away any goals, though that was a little lucky. We'll see if he gets more chances and judge then.

Think you missed me, Jeff’s and TopLeft’s points there. Like I said, Marinović is good and I’m very happy with him as first choice - second paragraph is null, as you’ll see me defending his clubs and achievements if you scroll just a few posts up - but there’s just something about him that doesn’t fill me with confidence. I’d say it’s his relative lack of prowess at anything that’s not shot stopping (was booed by Bristol fans for continually kicking the ball out of touch it seems).

Personally I would like to see Woud given a chance in the coming years as he has obvious bags of potential and wouldn’t be second choice in the Eredivisie + called up the Netherlands U19s if he didn’t have ability. He’ll be a first-choice goalkeeper at a very good standard in a few seasons

Highlights v Ipswich

Only highlights I know, apart from the howler in the opening seconds [perhaps just trouble in adjusting to the speed of the game at that level], he looked ok. Good crowd and gee its a good standard of football.

I reckon massive storm in a teacup. It was his debut game, he was probably nervous and had a shaky start. He's a great gk, yes he doesn't have the best pedigree but he's proved himself in the MLS and also with the AWs. Germany is in the past and whilst the level was fairly average there, he excelled (unlike many others who are unable to do well in the German or Sweden lower divs) and got then promoted to the third division which earned him an MLS contract!
Let's wait until the end of the season at least.

His kicking would be great if he was an All Black fullback, kicking from behind his 22.

But he's not.

His distribution is woeful for a goalkeeper.

Never thought his distribution was poor when playing for the all whites

Not top drawer but not poor

But hell hes a goal keeper. The key is to catch the easy ones and save as many as the hard ones as possible.

My parting comment is that Keegan Smith apparently got his first team action at the Nix based upon his distribution skills

No point in distributing the ball nicely if you are picking it out of your net

Whom else do we have at the moment in the all whites outside of our premiership players whom would even be considered by a championship club?

Maybe Thomas? That would be it.

Celebrate it for what it is - a bloody good achievement

Bristol win 3-2 at Sheffield United.

Bristol a point off the playoff spots, but 1-2 games in hand on the teams above.

Marinovic on the bench. Going to be hard to impress any future Euro clubs, if stuck on the pine next few weeks.

Has he picked up a late injury? There doesn't appear to be another GK on the bench.

EDIT: Some of the fans seem to think he's a waste of space on the bench after his last performance. I wonder if he's departed?

Possibly injured. Picked up a niggle in a club friendly about 10 days ago in the March FIFA window.

Ah yes, I knew they had a behind closed doors match against Cardiff? I couldn't find out much about it (probably for obvious reasons). It's an unlucky time to pick up a knock but hopefully it's only minor.  I still think there's a chance he'll be at the Nix next season.

On the bench as Bristol City (6th) lose 2-1 at Villa (5th), in a big game. 41,000 at Villa Park

I note Bristol’s keeper O’Leary was booked just prior to Villa scoring from a pen.

But according to the match report O’Leary had “an inspired display” with a string of saves keeping Bristol in the match.

Sounds like splinters for Marinovic until season end.
