Bristol draw 1-1 with Reading.

Marinovic not in match day squad. Presume coach went with a “no keeper on the bench” squad again.

On the bench as Bristol City lose 2-0 at Sheffield Wednesday.

Bristol drop out of the promotion playoff spots. But only a point off Derby in 6th and still have a game in hand.

Actually play Derby this weekend in a big game.

Wasn't on the bench in a 2-0 loss to Derby. Mäenpää is back from injury and started.

Not in match day squad as Bristol City travel to Milwall.

Bristol won 2-1, but will probably also need to beat Hull City away this weekend in last round, to make promotion playoffs.

Need Derby to lose and Boro not to win.

Bristol City draw 1-1 at Hull City and miss out on the promotion playoffs.

Marinovic on the bench.

You would think he will be released now from his very short term, injury cover deal.

Thoughts on Marinovic from Whitecaps supporters; not exactly glowing, you'd have to say.

Really? Overall reviews are that he's an average MLS keeper from what I see. You'd have to expect an average MLS keeper would be one of the best in the A-League, no?

Thought he was great when I first saw him in that stupid hat in age group teams, he has been solid for the AW's, he is technically and physically similar to Kurto but is much more aggressive, comes out a bit more the Kurto who was very line bound. I'm really happy he is here.... we could have done a lot worse if you look at NZ and OZ options.

There are lots of average keepers in the A-League who do well, so I think he can do well; it will help that he's a known quantity to our goalkeeping coach already.

This is a league where Jamie Young was considered one of the best keepers the season before last. This is a league where Ben Kennedy and Vedran Janjetovic still have (had) jobs. Stefan will be fine

Why was he signed on a 2 year contract when we only have 1 season left?.

We've got other players signed after this season too. The club thinks we have a future and Greg O'Rourke also said just a few days ago that he thinks the Phoenix will get a license extension.

Awesome signing,

Better then the guy he replaced who wasn't bad and a kiwi

If all our non imports are the same calibre we will be doing well

Sorry if i misread AP but are you suggesting he is better than Kurto.

Yep. Kurto is just yesterday's best keeper in the league. Better to have today's best keeper in the league, surely!? ;)

correct to both of the above, believe that the nIx have even said this as well

Dont think Marinovic is required at all

Really feel for Sail as thought he did admirably well in the appearances he had for the Nix. So much for supporting young and creative talent.in this case.

I watched most of the games he played for the Whitecaps and he didn't set the world on fire...had a few good games yet not consistent. Worry about his distribution as was typically poor ... hope hes improved...interesting to see how he compares in the A league. Will have more time on his side than he had in the MLS or his brief stint in England at least.

I guess we'll see if hes up to it or not. I think with Sail is they'd rather someone of experience in keeper but i think like last season he'll get a few games here and there and if he performs well might start ahead of Marinovic.

Yes Sail will get at least one Nix game you think, when AWs play Eire in November.

A League now reverting back, to not halting during FIFA windows.

Sail between the sticks a few more times possibly, if AWs can secure game(s) March 2020 window. Don't hold your breath of course.

If Marinovic has a standout season, and some clubs come knocking (aka Kurto) plus Sail goes well as a backup - Nix may even consider onselling Marinovic mid  2 year contract, to pocket some coin.

Hope we really did sign Stefan Marinovic and not Louis Klein!

everything is different with keepers. The margins are finer and even the slightest things make a huge difference. Maybe at face value it's hard to tell the difference between the two, but there's a reason why both Rudan and now Uffie have decided against using Sail as the no. 1. Sail will be the starting keeper of a professional team one day, hopefully us too, but there's no point rushing it. I'm just really happy we have two capable keepers on our books early who can spend a full pre-season training with Gothard

We needed to sign some sort of keeper - can't just have Zac Jones backing up Oli Sail. When NZs #1 is available, you jump on that, we want to be the best team possible.

Hard to say the Phoenix aren't supporting young talent with guys like Stensness, Waine, Singh, Cacace all getting opportunities. Goalkeepers just don't tend to break through as early, and the chance to learn from Marinovic will be invaluable to Sail's development.

If Sail's better than Marinovic, he'll play. It's as simple as that

I'm not convinced on Marinovic. He's big strong and quick, but lacking the technical ability of many many of the best keepers New Zealand has had over the years. I do think that the attributes that he does possess give him the ability to become a high class keeper

As good as he was at shot stopping even Kurto had his limitations. He was rather hesitant to come off his line at set pieces (And we conceded alot at set pieces). It's important to have competition for places and I am sure Sail will push Marinovic for a starting spot.

Marinovic was a good signing for a lot of reasons. But he's a known quantity. Gothard and him already have a working relationship.

Marinovic's best work throughout his career has been his time with the All Whites under Paul Gothard. In the games against Peru, he was very very good. I think he'll prove to be an excellent signing.
