I've never really been a fan of Marinovic.
There is something about him that has looked suspect but I cannot say exactly what. No doubting his shot stopping ability but I think keepers need to *really* excel at that (Vukovic and Kurto) if thats all they offer or if that is not their strongest attribute, it needs to be a very low error rate and offer other things like distribution.
Absolutely agree with all of this. Hope Woud is phased in soon, as though Stefan's a solid option I wouldn't want to see Woud's potential wasted
So lets play a keeper with 0 first team minutes, but with potential over a kiwi keeper who has not let us down in the past and has played at a decent level over the last 18 months... ok - makes sense????
Stefan gets a lot of grief about playing lower tier football in Germany, but the reality is, unlike most young keepers, he was actually playing first team football and getting experience outside of youth games. Has anyone considered he took that option over being a reserve keeper and never getting a chance in a higher league. He has his short comings, but has not let us down. One poor game means nothing, lets see how he improves over the next few weeks.
Think you missed me, Jeff’s and TopLeft’s points there. Like I said, Marinović is good and I’m very happy with him as first choice - second paragraph is null, as you’ll see me defending his clubs and achievements if you scroll just a few posts up - but there’s just something about him that doesn’t fill me with confidence. I’d say it’s his relative lack of prowess at anything that’s not shot stopping (was booed by Bristol fans for continually kicking the ball out of touch it seems).
Personally I would like to see Woud given a chance in the coming years as he has obvious bags of potential and wouldn’t be second choice in the Eredivisie + called up the Netherlands U19s if he didn’t have ability. He’ll be a first-choice goalkeeper at a very good standard in a few seasons
