I'm only new to this forum but it's quite amusing reading some of these comments.
Steven Old is currently a regular starter in a European league where it's looking likely that his team will be promoted (couple of games left but currently sitting top of the league) from the Superettan to the top division where teams can qualify for the champions league - Malmo recently had a decent win against Olympiacos. I agree that at times he was exposed in the A-league, but that was years ago now. He's in a professional footballing environment day in day out. As a staunch All Whites supporter it's slightly embarrassing when selectors opt for 'amateur' players plying their trade in the, what's it called, the NZFC?
Check out this link to some of Stevens most recent highlights. An assist and goal - don't think his technical ability is an issue.

Won't be surprised to see Hudson give him a shot once they're over the next round of international friendlies - or should we continue to select players from our amateur league OR players that currently ply their trade for the well renowned club 'unattached'?
Not bagging Steven but he's had some pretty pants clubs since getting boned by the Nix. If he ends up being a starter in Sweden's top flight, yes look at him as a squad player. Still some way behind the likes of Reid, Smith and co as things stand.
