Olimpia still preferring their long serving Caceres at RB. Timmy P watches on.
85 mins still 0-0 and all 5 subs made.

Finishes a 1-0 loss. Off to Brazil to play Vasco in the SudaAmerica later this week.

Finishes 0-0. Payne an unused sub.
I'm guessing that's considered a good result away by Olimpia.
Return leg next week.

Over the weekend Olimpia host Ameliano in the league. Maybe Timmy P finally gets a start amongst a heavy schedule of games.

Yes. & they are in the Copa Paraguay against a Paraguay 3rd division team this month too. I imagine he could either start or do 35 minutes in that. Bring it on! Its on the 27th.

Tim Pine is right. Peaked a couple of years ago, then injuries and ageing, and here we are, heading for a slightly early retirement. Clearly Olimpia don't rate him.
This was a great bit of business for Tim and for Wellington, who shoulda given Loke more of a go.

Thats s bit harsh. How do you know Olimpia dont rate him? The season has barely got going. He arrived late after the WC. He doesnt speak Spanish so hes going to need time to learn the onfield calls. Plus its a new country a new league, a new style of football. The club also has an established player in his position
Of course its going to time for him to get up to speed.
Payne has had injury issues but hes hardly a dud. He had a solid WC and didnt look out of place. We will miss him at the Nix IMO. Do you think we will get the same leadership and assists out of the two youngsters who will playing RB this season?
Give the guy a break. Hes given great service to the Nix over the years and deserves some respect

Yes, he deserves to be in Paraguay.
Will get more game time in the league and Copa Paraguay next.

The club made contact with the phoenix the moment he went viral and they have never seen him play before then, it was clearly a marketing stunt & good on them, they’re not a well-off club & needed to get hype and marketing..

Social media around the Paraguay league & Latin American football is still cynical around this signing & so far the lack of game time is probably a telling sign (Olimpia have been actually been poor defensively this season, with many goals they concede is from the right hand side)..

In saying that, good on him for going on this adventure & i hope he succeeds

Tim Payne started today and played the full match. They won 2:1 at home. He created a number of chances with crosses but they didn't score until later with other players that combined to score. He made some good passes too. A good experience to be part of. ✅️

Apparently in the EPL 50% of transfers ‘fail’. Bringing a player in slowly from a completely different footballing culture, plus a season and a WC is just common sense.

I wonder what the Nix’s success incoming transfers rate has  been the last couple of years.

Struggling to see them making it to 50 per cent.

Auckland will rise once more

Getting praise across the board - best crosser in the team, for some, though no assists today. People hoping he starts more regularly now and takes that starting RB role

I watched all the match. He launched the ball into the goal box a number of moments, but the attackers on the end of that wasted it. Missed and into the goalkeeper hands. I think he will get an assist soon.
