they've also got tabb listed as a forward, and skuse normally plays in mf, so i'd say tommy was probably at the back
check out the reading lineup too - players out of position all over the place

Tommy Smith scored in a 3-0 win against Millwall last night

"Of my 12 goals in my 500-odd league games, they were genuinely all like that one from Tommy Smith - I can remember most of them. It was a magnificent header." - Mick McCarthy

Jack Ainsley came in for his first league start at centre-half alongside Damien Delaney with Tommy Smith dropping to the bench.Lee Martin and sub Tommy Smith saw red either side of half-time.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Tommy Smith was introduced at the break, for the ineffective Josh Carson with Jack Ainsley moving to right-back and Carlos Edwards into midfield.

Smith’s introduction lasted around a minute before the New Zealand international joined Martin back in the dressing room. The ball was played through the middle for a possibly offside Tomlin to chase, Smith and the striker both went to ground just outside the area and the linesman waved his flag for a foul against the Town man when the initial infringement may have been committed by the Peterborough player.

Despite the incident having taken place some distance outside the area, referee Scott pointed to the penalty spot in addition to sending Tommy Smith off, the first time Town have ever had two players sent off in the same match.

Ipswich away to Derby this morning who are temporarily without a manager after sacking Nigel Clough. Ipswich comfortable ninth on table and great to see Tommy established as first-choice player at heart of a tight defense.

Tommy's photo is everywhere these days - like the way his portrait takes up the whole left side if the Ipswich website:

http://www.itfc.co.uk/index.aspx

and the whole right side of the club's Twitter account: https://twitter.com/Official_ITFC

Didier takes some advice from Tommy on eve of Europa League Final Amsterdam, back in May (Tommy blagged tickets and went with Chris Wood):

I reckon he's one of the best goal-scoring centre-backs in the Championship.

Saw the goal on "The Football League Show" on Sky -was a powerful cracker! A 1-0 win eases them up from the lower reaches of the table.

He almost scored earlier in the game too. He beat my team, Charlton - but since he's a Kiwi, I forgive him....

Also a 3-1 home win v Blackburn yesterday - Ipswich currently in good spot of form.

Really long ball out of defence & embarassing keeper blunder for third Ipswich goal:

Like Mick McCarthy's new beard - it's a "Christopher Lee" look:

A top candidate for the Republic of Ireland job (again).

Mick has a wonderfully expressive face too:

O'neill and Keano got that gig. Excited to see how they work together over the Euro qualifiers.

Did anyone read the article in the Herald about Tommy nearly quitting the AWs due to the poor organisation and communcation machine that is NZF? There must be at least some grain of truth to the article even if there are no sorces listed in the article:

Yup. But it is more to do with NZF enforcing their rights under FIFA regs to have players available.

Tommy Smith wasn't in the lineup last game at all. Injured??

From the match preview v Preston in the Cup last weekend (1-1 draw):
"Daryl Murphy (thigh), Tommy Smith (back) and Dean Gerken (groin) are all ruled out."
Read more at http://www.itfc.co.uk/news/article/pne-preview-1273457.aspx#qoFmPAsqhtWSkvD5.99
Also from the match report: "Town made seven changes to the side that drew with Charlton on New Year’s Day"
Read more at http://www.itfc.co.uk/news/article/town-v-pne-1274466.aspx#F2X63K3XBQVxk3OB.99
So, didn't field their top team anyway - not sure how serious Tommy's injury is - but Mick was obviously resting players with any injury doubts and resting first-teamers anyway....

Any merit in a career/position change up front? The guy scores a lot of goals for the amount of time he spends at the top end of the pitch
