Exact halfway point of the season for Ipswich with 23 of 46 matches played.

Tommy should end up with a decent goal tally if he keeps it up.

His third Championship goal of the season after his "goal" against Leeds on December 6 was taken away by the review panel and quite rightly given to team mate Berra:

 C. Berra 48'

(assist by T. Smith)

Ipswich four points behind surprise package leaders Bournemouth with a game in hand and a point above Boro with a game in hand on them too.

Smith has made himself unavailable again?

However painting all New Zealand's senior pros with the same brush may not be accurate either. It's understood Tommy Smith made himself unavailable for the fixture in Seoul, and won't be back for the camp in June either during his holidays.

A bit of colour in that peice. What the accuracy of it is, don't know.

Ipswich are in promotion playoffs, fair enough to him, Ipswich gotta focus on that promotion place. Gives Hudson a chance to create competition in the group and gives Smith the ability to focus on getting into the premier league.

So are we disliking Tommy Smith again?

In promotional playoffs, drew 1 all

"However, Jerome was too strong for Tommy Smith and he played in a pinpoint left-wing ball for the onrushing Howson to sidefoot home into the corner past Bartosz Bialkowski and give the visitors the lead."

Tee hee - he calls himself "Smudge":

Tommy ‘SMUDGE’ Smith

‘Smudge’ is the man behind the brand. He has played football at the highest level, representing New Zealand at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, whilst representing Ipswich Town since 2006, making over 200 appearances for the Tractor Boys.

He is now looking to pass on all the knowledge and experience he has gained, to the next generation at TSSS.

Smudge has lived in the area for a number of years and is looking to give something back to the community that has given him and his team mates so much support over the years.

He will be overseeing and looking to improve every department of TSSS.

I hope Ipswich come through the second leg and make Wembley.  While he has been a bell-end recently, I would like to see another kiwi in the Prem and it could only be a good thing for the AWs

Moot point. Ipswich will be planning summer holidays after this weekend.

But i suspect you are right. Berra is a good CB and would make the step up to EPL. I suspect they would get another starting CB in to play alongside Berra. Smith would be a squaddie at best.

Personally think Mings is a better CB than Smith.

Would be interesting to see some stats on what squads of teams who have gained promotion look like in the last game of the season in which they gained promotion and the first game in the new league is like and what sort of changes have taken place as opposed to turnover of teams staying in the same league

Shame it all turned to custard for Ipswich in the end: custard yellow = canary yellow....

"Ipswich's manager Mick McCarthy produced the quote of the day when asked to predict an outcome in the playoff final:

"One of them has to win it and one of them is going to be as sick as a seaside donkey at Wembley, just like I feel now, and will be coming back and seeing my kipper [face] in the Championship."

Fair bit of uncertainty on Ipswich's Facebook post by some fans - some saying he's good but not good enough to start, stating his defensive errors are constant and his goals barely make up for them. Others defending him staunchly saying his goal should shut up the doubters.

Would link it but can't find it anymore.

Ipswich are doing well so far this year and Smith is leading the way with another goal.

For all his critics, he seems to be a very god Championship player and still quite young.

Had enough of this guy and his attitude about playing for New Zealand.

Time to wipe our hands of him. There will be no more going onto the bbc website and checking the Ipswich result and reading the match write up to see how he played.

Time to strip this thread completely
