The benefits of having a "reserve" team are definitely showing this season!
Massively key statement I think.

still reminds me of Marco and Kosta tho..sign them young, train them, play them occasionally then lose them...unless he agrees to stay.

Signing New Zealand youth is probably the only competitive advantage we have. I think Boyd is a long way off being an import players in the A-League as well.
true..I was more thinking use em or lose em...the youth is the reserve team but its tat transition to first team squad and keeping them I am reflecting on.

If he scores more goals like those two soon then other teams will soon come sniffing. Massive potential IMO.
I should know better than this... but for some reason it boggles the mind that the kneejerk reaction to a good performance from a youngster is the assumption that a) they are now a world class player and b) they'll leave soon because we're apparently crap at retaining players

It's what I've already noted as the Nix Dilemma: "All our players are crap, because if they were any good they wouldn't play for us."

All changing. If we're stay number three on the ladder, enjoy a solid management with a top coach and keep that over the next years, seasoned players and top talents are lining up to play for us. Good players want to play in good teams.
FTR, I saw Tyler Boyd down at Wakefield Park practising shooting as I was running past earlier today. To score two goals like that and then still do extra training sessions makes me think he will go a long way.
He must have just got off the plane!
Lets see him back it up if he is given the chance.Rapt with his 2 goals but the test will be for him to prove that he can continue that form.
I think its important we re-sign Boyd. The whole point of developing youngsters is to get some pay back on the field. Boyd was thrown in the deep end with the Nix as a 17 y.o. He got lots of game time when he should probably have been nurtured off the bench. He got bagged for being one footed and not scoring but I always thought he had loads of potential talent. He has gone away and worked on his game and he deserves credit. He may still be inconsistent.....but he is just out of his teens. Nathan Burns was a youth star but it has taken him years to play at a consistently high level. We can't expect Boyd to bang in the goals every week.
On the subject of Burns....if he keeps playing like he is now and gets the Golden Boot then he will be off IMO. He was honest and said that he saw coming to the Nix was to try and get his career back on track. he will go overseas again. Thats one reason why its important we get Boyd signed for a couple more years.
Agree with this100 per cent but Tyler must be very wary how Ernie views him and what it took for him to get on the park. Prior to this week in a front three, he was the 6th cab of the rank behind Wee Mac, Krishna, Burns, Brockie and Cunningham. That is a long way back on the taxi rank.
With Brockie gone and Kenny no doubt leaving, he has moved up the pecking order but he must be wondering how he could displace a Burns or Krishna at the moment. Saying all that I really hope he stays.

Yeah I have a massive turd to eat cause I was one of the prime shouters that he would not go much further cause he was severely one footed. He has certainly fixed that for sure.
Great to see him bag a couple of good goals.
That however doesnot make him an instant superstar

It hasn't happend in isolation.
He is top of the golden boot race in the ASB premiership remember.

He has obviously worked hard and matured. Sometimes keeping a player in a reserve team is the best option as I think is the case here.
He appears to have grabbed the chance offered to him. The test will be to replicate that form in the further chances he will get.
Should Tyler carry this form on, what a nice problem for the club, 3 goal scorers to choose from!
Don't forgt WeeMac - he has one less than Krishna... although not for a while. He is due.

A small club in Holland is more what I had in mind.
Do we know the contract he's been offered? If he could take some advice from Marco and Costa, it would be that the streets of European cities are not all paved with gold and you need to be exceptional to bteak through to regular first team selection. Tyler doesn't have the physique to beat off those big defenders and his skill and trickery is only good enough for the A League. That said, there's no better time for him to give it a punt so long as he bulks up a bit more.

I heard Swiss teams need more Kiwi talent.
FC Thun no longer likely for Boyd!
Expecting some retractions from the "He's not good enough to get a contract in Europe/The US" commenters...

I hope he makes a go of it. Personally I think it is too soon for him but wish him all the best.
Getting the contract is just the first step
Sounds like a nice deal for him. 4 years looks like they planning to give him some development time. Hope he is doing well over there, it open up more possibility. All the best.
Five teams have won the Prima Liga, 2 teams have won it once, with the remaining 78 titles split between three teams, none of which are the side Tyler is going to.
That's in the Europa league places. In poor form though, so he'll be hoping they stay there.
Exciting for Boyd, good on him.
