Winston Reid (Unattached FC)

Watched from the bench as the Hammers drew 3-3 against Bournemouth. 3 gosls in the last 10 minutes, including an injury time equaliser for the Cherries. West Ham’s entire back 3 got yellow cards and shipped 3 goals, so i’m guessing Reid will be back in the team next week

Not in match day squad. Is he out of favour?

Injured. He isn't likely to fall out of favour.

Unused on bench v Brighton as Hammers lose 3-1.

Not in the squad as West Ham win 2-0 against Watford, apparently with a throat infection.

No Wood either as Burnley lose 1-0 to Swansea conceding a late goal

Also on the bench as Hammers visit Anfield.

After that effort they might not be the preferred players next game!

Back in starting lineup away to Swansea

Doesn't sound like good news. Taken to hospital after a 17th minute injury. Concerns of something to do with his leg and concussion.

Looks very nasty. Probably a no-show for the behind-closed-doors training run with Canada. Unless he's well enough to attend just to meet the new coach.

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Feel for him. Say what you will but it's always sad to see such a talented player being plagued by injuries over and over again.

No injury update on Reid, but interesting snippet from this week's Flying Kiwis.

Check it out, Four Four Two are doing one of those irrelevant and frivolous list things and they’ve got Winston Reid ranked as the 95th Best Bargain in Premier League History!

FourFourTwo: “West Ham supporters have a penchant for flair players; those who have lifted the club above mediocrity and allowed them to dream – think Joe Cole, Paolo Di Canio and Dimitri Payet. But in Reid they found an alternative cult hero, one whose impact came through his commitment and loyalty. He stayed following relegation, has repeatedly battled back after injury and stood tall as a monument to permanence while almost everything around him changed.”

They haven’t finished the list but if Winston Reid’s there then Ryan Nelsen, who was a free transfer from DC United to Blackburn Rovers, must surely be there too, right?

Yup, sure enough…

FourFourTwo: “There was a time when Mark Hughes was synonymous with bargain hunting, not moaning about referees. At Blackburn, he got a redoubtable centre-back partnership for a combined £400,000. I was told he was 6 weeks into rehab when his knee flared up again and turned out they'd fudged something in to op so had to go under the knife again and it put him back to square 1

Flying Kiwis again.

Speaking of injury news, here’s some more sparse Winston chat…

ExWHUemployee@ExWHUemployee

He has his own personal rehabilitation programme with specialist equipment at the training ground. As the injury is quite complicated there is no set recovery date

No set recovery date? Wow they sounds bad.

I'm guessing its either his body isn't in a good physical state (too much weight), leg hasn't recovered as well as it should or a combination of both. Would also have a decent toll mentally aswell with the pressure to get back and the long setback.

At his age it takes alot more to get back to peak physical condition and the injury to the leg hasn't helped.

More Flying Kiwis. Unfortunately pretty shark news for Reid.

PhysioRoom.com@physioroom

The Times suggest that Jack Wilshere (ankle) could return to training later this month.

However, it looks like Winston Reid (knee) will not feature in 2018/19. The centre-back suffered a knee ligament injury 11 months ago and had surgery in the summer following a setback. #WHUFC

Claret and Hugh: “Forgotten West Ham man Winston Reid injury could resume light training in around three weeks but Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t expect the Kiwi centre back to play this season he told reporters at Rush Green late last week. Winston Reid after went surgery in July last year and is yet to kick a ball in anger this season. The long serving defender suffered a knee injury against Swansea City last season.”

Also rumours that the Hammers are looking to pick up Gary Cahill on a free from Chelsea.

Still think that if and when he's back to full fitness he's the best of the defenders at West Ham. Just one of those unfortunate injury setbacks that can happen. 12-18 months out though definitely gives the competition time to shine so will be a challenge to crack the first team again. Still he's only 30, so will have a few good years in him when he gets back to 100%.

Just gotta say it, never going to happen, but...

How good would it be to see to the guy in Wellington?!

I could see Winnie returning to NZ when he hits 32,33 ; not sure if he'll be able to walk by then though..
