Hard to argue with much of it, especially if the reported buy-out clause at the end of the season is in place.

Except for the fact that whole article was based on media conjecture and not facts, but that has become standard for journalism in this century.

It was at least labelled under opinion and took into account only what was known at the time (he didn't make anything up himself, relied on others to do so). Ernie basically agreed with his 'chuck in academy players and set a of stake knives' (to paraphrase) quote.

none of it was presented as facts. It looks like he has tried to contact the wanking club for a comment and not been able to get anything (understandable from the clubs point of view if they think that he is a wanker). It is still a significant story even without their wanking input.

As football reporters go Sam Worthington is lazy. There is so much football activity going on in Wellington now more than ever and stuff all of it gets covered.

Quote from Danny Hay's latest column....

Those two players (Durante & Sigmund) have single-handedly righted the defensive issues that initially hampered the Phoenix's season - hence Sigmund has been rewarded with a deserved contract extension in the last few days.

two players =  single handed!

That's not true - they ran this illuminating comprehensive feature on the game:

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

If thats all the press the game has recieved the day before the match then the Nix PR guy needs a boot up the bum!!!!  The new purpose built stadium is a good news story that should have got some coverage.

Mind you with less than 1000 tickets left to sell maybe the club decided it was not worth the effort as it will sellout with casuals turning up tomorrow(if the southerly rain holds off)

Probably couldn't have picked a worse week to be doing something you would like publicity for either, can't imagine much space in the sports sections after Cricket World Cup and Super Rugby kick-off.

One News tonight had no mention at all of the Nix win over Adelaide, which put them top of the table for some time. Instead they showed the Aston Villa fans running on the pitch invasion and a post match interview about how 'dangerous' it was, with barely any mention of what happens in the actual game...

Prime and 3 news also neglected to mention the Phoenix.  I can't help but wonder if our kick off times mean we are less likely to get media coverage, considering the games are finishing when the sports news is on.  Meaning they can mention the result at the end of the sports bulletin and not have to show highlights the following day.

It's very disappointing but guess they had to give the Breakers extended coverage.

One day, we will have our day.

We have just beaten China today in Davis Cup tennis and there was not a mention of it on tonight's TV1 News.

It was dropped because of Breakers. But kick off time not ideal.

Yet they do find time to cover the V8s when their races are on during the news slot ;-) (Generally coverage on the night and the following night)

We covered the Phoenix on Saturday night.

I think the coverage is in general poor but as yesterday had CWC and the Breakers title can see how it might get bumped.

I'm assuming the Blues loss to the Lions (from Saturday night) didn't make it either seeing as that was an NZ team losing as opposed to an NZ team winning in the Phoenix?

yeah I can understand covering it on Saturday, then covering it a bit more in depth on Sunday if there is time (understandably wasn't time yesterday).

But it should be covered on at least one of the those nights. 5pm is an unfortunate time as the game is finishing just as the news is, then there is nearly a full 24 hours until the news is on again.

Is it covered at all on the late night news slot just a few hours after the game finishes?

No late news on weekends.

And there is simply more interest in Super Rugby than there is A-League.

Next to the "This!" can we have a "Bullshark" button for when you disagree with someone? Sorry Simon but the treatment dished out to the Nix by a lot of the media is so cliched and minimal it's  no longer amusing to a lot of fans. Do "other sports" really feel that threatened?

Two points from 12 against mediocre teams apart from Roar, nine from nine against the top three. Newsworthy.

Absolute piss poor effort by radio sport this afternoon. Top of the league , playing sexy amazing wonderful football and all they manage to do is get Andy fudgeing Harper on to tell everyone that the Phoenix contribute jack all to the  league. He got Domey on afterwards but rather then be able to talk about how awesome we're doing he has to bat off suggestions that we're being flushed by the FFA because we offer nothing. It was the same during the week getting Cockerill on. Can't they get someone like Piney or Iffs on to talk the Nix up rather then constantly sharkting on us it's absolute bollocks and it really really really fudges me off!

Veitch led by jizzing over Nathan Burns, also had Ernie AND then the ThunderDome after Harper.

If you're gonna have a dig, get your facts right or you're credibility is zero. I know Harper has upset a few people but some of us need to realise how we're perceived by some/many over the ditch. Like it not, that's the reality - as it has been (and still is) for some other Kiwi franchises in Aussie comps.

We will never be judged equally. Never. So, we have to contribute more than the average Aussie club. Yes it sucks but that's the reality of us being guests in some of their comps.

We need them more than they need us.

No surprise.  New Zealand media has becomeTabloid media.  If you can't spin a negative don't bother and Veitch is a champion at it.

A good news story will be belittled and introduced with a counterpoint unless he can present a buddy buddy chat while he sycophatically grovels to a sports star.

He didn't even bother having facts with which to counter the gross innaccuracies from Harper.  Just let him climb on his soapbox and whine.

Like Lynch and Cockerill he's another one that has publically supported an NZ team inclusion until he got the call from de Bohun saying 'look, we fudgeed up the Sky deal, we need to force the Phoenix owners to financially cover our arses, can you do a hatchet job? I'll pay for your drinks and lappies all night next time we're out'

Fair call. I tuned in a bit before Harper was on so was didn't know Veitch had spoken to Burns and Ernie. It just annoys me that rather then having someone on to pump up the Nix before Dome they had Harper talking nonsense and then Dome had to answer the questions re Harper which is negative instead of ranting and raving about being top of the league and generally kicking ass.
