How is Australia's coverage of the OFC Nations cup usually?
Tad defensive but key games get reported ... bit of a difference in that the AFC has over 4.5 billion people some of the world biggest economics and the worlds main Oil supplies...
My comment was more in Australia we will report on US, England, European issues ... we actually are in Asia Indonesia is closer than NZ ..
To me is almost like the media [not confined to Football] still want the world to be like the 60's...
Geographical proximity doesn't mean you're on the same continent. And I don't really get your point anyway, no one on this thread said Australia shouldn't be in Asia.
As for the rest of it, football isn't a headline sport in New Zealand, Asia isn't even close to the most interesting region for neutral football fans, and we're a small country with a limited media market. And what do large populations and oil supplies have to do with whether people in NZ care about their football teams?
I'd love football to get given more media coverage in NZ, but the attitude here towards the Asian Cup is not at all unusual. All Whites games barely rate a mention!
I guess you win I’ll go…
For the love of Mary all I asked was how is the AC going in NZ and then said it’s been poor in Australia and passed no judgements on NZ at all simply asked how was it going…
I also said in a broader context, in Australia we seem to take our news and stories lines from US, English and European sources… yet in Australia all our major trading partners are Asian and the biggest migration groups to Australia are Asian. So when I asked about the population and size was saying WE [meaning our media] seem to wanta ignore Asia aside from trade …. Personally I struggle with why our media is like that ….
Further I conceded as you were not playing in it adds to the complexity…
Never did I say anything about NZ or how it thinks about our Asian membership …
