How about this …

In Melbourne this week-end we had:
a) AUS Open Women’s final played last night – a truly global event;
b) AUS Open Men’s final played today – one of the world’s 4 biggest tennis events this year
c) a football match between MVFC & SFC ..

Also, a Cricket International was played last night in Sydney.

News Limited has never been active in promoting Football, in general; or, the A-League in particular BUT…

Today’s front page of the Sunday Herald Sun:https://twitter.com/MVFCLR22/status/295309786000535552/photo/1

Johnny Warren must have a big grin on his face – he told us so!

The Kiwi Messie as he is called over here OMG the best player I have seen since Harry Kwell play in Australia... with talks of Juve & Liverpool... tho he should have his own thread...

From the Herald Sun and this is one of many articles about Rojas ...just copied part of the article.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/alessandro-del-piero-fails-to-fire-for-sydney-fc-as-rojas-leads-melbourne-to-victory/story-e6frfg8x-1226562581199

THEY came to pay homage to Alessandro Del Piero, a soccer superstar whose best days are behind him, and left knowing they had seen a star of the future.

Melbourne's many Italian football fans were out in force to welcome their illustrious countryman, but had to settle for an unspectacular performance of limited influence as his team, Sydney, were outclassed by Victory 3-1, a scoreline that probably flattered the visitors.

He was upstaged by one of the A League's most exciting rising stars as Victory's Marco Rojas, 21, completed two brilliant strikes, his 11th and 12th goals of a breakout season that has him destined for bigger things.

Both were deflected off the opposition players, causing some to suggest they might technically be own-goals, but that would be greatly under-selling the skill that went into them.

The crowd were left to ponder one of the eternal questions that sport throws up -- is it more exciting, more interesting, to watch a great but fading player offer a glimpse of what has been, or to see a bright new talent writing a script for the future?

The Victory faithful will have gladly settled for the latter, but nonetheless enjoyed the opportunity -- as soccer fans all over Australia have for the past few months -- to see one of the game's true stars up close and personal.

Thanks for posting this midfielder, great to see! But yeah, Rojas has a thread in the Kiwis Overseas forum, so it'll be best if you post in there.
