I don't think it needs to change.  That sort of thing will change as Oz/NZ society changes.

Unless we really close the borders to immigration I can't see football taking a backward step in either country over the next 10-20 years.  Whether the Wilsons, Jones', Deakers and Savilles of the current media like it or not, there is a reason why in most other parts of the globe, football is a dominant and well-followed game (FFS even the Yanks have somehow got a good set up and a decent national team).

The biggest impediment to football's inevitable progress in both countries are the administrative bodies.  Ours is just incompetent.  Theirs is all of the above in my previous post.
