I don't like Rattue's rugby articles and his obsession/hatred with/for Graeme Henry and Sonny Bill Williams grates, but I've thought he's been ok with the football stuff?

More than happy to see anyone up against Thompson!

Article leading up to the 2nd leg from the chap.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/chris-rattue/news/article.cfm?a_id=22&objectid=10603101

Admittedly amongst a plethora of other hack jobs from various soap box experts but did stick out in a rather asinine fashion: Don't bother going to the WC NZ as you'll get ripped to shreds by other teams, Bahrain deserve to go because they played better in the 1st leg.

Wonder if they serve humble pie in Dorkland?

Apparently Laws is now a football columnist (Today's SST). What a terrible article. Ill-informed prick he is.

He's back!

Good read. Some suggestions made this time even. Agree we need Greenacre back asap (great work rate), and we need Caceras to be more than a show pony and start games.

Looking forward to winning the next game 6-0 now!

The t@sser has some valid points re player impact or lack of.

I don't buy this "other teams have nix sussed" line - other than Seednee. The draws have been a mixture of us grabbing late equalisers or the other way around.

Sure there are some games when we have been lucky to get a point, but Th**pson shoots himself in the foot when he goes on to identify the real problem: Nae fookin strikers! Or someone to finish off chances in front of goal (lord knows there have been a few - even against the old Bling).

5/10 Mr Th**pson

Try a bit harder next time

Nah, he's got it spot on for once.

We've had enough excuses. We've had enough spin about a draw being a good result. We need some results or we are going to finish bottom.

Never said a draw was a good result in the context of how the whole season has progressed - it doesn't mean that the other sides know how to deal with us.  On balance I'd say we have been the masters of our own destiny (i.e. I think we had more of the draws that were ours for the taking and failed to capitalise).

Last time he slagged the Nix off we had a blinder from memory the next outing, so here's hoping...

I'm afraid though his credibility is zero when the guy only pops up to criticise when he can be bothered writing a column

TX, yes you are right we need results.  But once again I'm not going to give this guy any credit for picking up on that as it's bloody obvious.

Good point about playing to the level of the opposition.

But what's his solution.  Get Greenacre fit (who he's already criticised this year).  Get Caceres playing better and...vary the tactics?  And then he goes back to the old kiwi football failsafe "how much do they want it?"

I just find it consistently frustrating that a guy with a platform in a national forum cannot raise the quality of football analysis above the banal.  I just find it incerdiby annoying, someone who we are told has a football brain gets that opportunity and all he can come up with is, we're missing a player through injury and we need to play better.  Thanks. For. That.

I also find it very frustrating that every column that he has written has been negative.  He also fails to acknowledge that the views he expressed in his last column were made to look fairly stupid susbsequently.  And where was he when the Phoenix were on a good run?  You can't just hide, that's poor.

This is just average, average journalism.  Actually, even though this is the stereotypical message board response to ana rticle you don't like I'm going to say it anyway as I think it's appropriate.

This is just lazy journalism

Thompson said eariler in the week, in the Dom Post, that Phoenix fans should feel frustrated. I, for one, don't like to be told how I should feel.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

"Phoenix on the ropes. Only in 4th spot"

NQF let the Phoenix off the hook by only conceding 3 goals last night. Ricki must be scratching his head at how he can get the team to play even more conservatively.

All the other A-League teams know how to shut down the nix. Other than the freak 6-0 win over GCU the other teams have only conceded 4 goals or less.

With only a few rounds remaining before the play-offs Ricki must be running out of options, with most of his squad at or near full fitness.

Already playing 3 DMs... maybe a 5-3-1-1, with Ifill in the slot behind Dadi/Greenie?  Or 5-3-2-0, with only Ifill and Bertos as attacking options?

The Danny Hay article linked on the home page is good.

He's actually spoken to the opposition and has rationalised the nix playing style and strengths - of course teams will adjust to counter this if they can.

Good call at the end - still 5 games to go.  Don't take your eye off the ball.

(but now we can lob it upfield and Dadi is big and strong enough to contest and hold it)

DomPost article today - Doesn't quite go back on his earlier words, but acknowledges Ricki as a good coach.

Good work Mr Thompson and I respect you for fronting up in print (somewhat).
