You can add SKY TV NZ's $200k to that!. Every little bit adds up.

There was that standoff about rights before the season began, anyone know what that was about?

Reguardless, apparently it costs ten million a year to record and broadcast the A-League, so Sky contributes the equivalent of 500k to Fox in services (unless Fox pays them?) and whatever it pays the FFA on top of that.

For your sake I hope you are wrong... its one of the key metrics along with ratings...

* We assume, as far as I know they've never said what the metrics were. The only thing we know is that Welnix thinks they're reasonable and they align with the targets that the Phoenix have set themselves.

I think we all know the main metrics would be TV money. We know SKY TV only paid $110k for the first 5 years then just on or above $200k in 2013 to now. The new TV deal shows the A-League is worth more then what SKY TV pay for it.

Lets hope they pay around $500k next season, but that's like saying lets hope we get 10k to a game in Wellington.

I think there has to be  a chance that Sky don't get the A league rights because they won't be willing to pay the price that the FFA deem acceptable. Not sure what was happening before this season because they were supposed to have the rights through to the end of this season already.

The only leverage Sky have is the fact that they film the Nix home games I guess.

There is no doubt FFA are pushing for the biggest media deal they can get .... media money follows ratings tis a chicken and egg thing I guess.

The aim is 80 + million... they have 57 from Fox ... 23 million to go ... these seem to be what people are talking about... Digital 2 million, FTA 8 to 10 million, overseas to make up the balance or better ..or . maybe a little less ...

From all reports I think the FFA are pretty much on track to get that extra $23mil or close to it. Football is above Rugby in Australia and the deal proves that - Don't think its gonna happen here but a 2nd NZ side would help improve TV dollars.

From the CCM forum

Patrick Delaney (Foxsports CEO) interview last night on the World of Football Show on SEN radio with David Davutovic and Michael Zappone. He was asked where he wants football to be in 6 years time, by the time this new deal ends, and his response was;

- they'd like ratings averaging 100k on Foxsports
- they'd like ratings averaging 200-300k on a FTA channel
- more teams, so the comp doesn't become stale, and the same clubs don't keep playing each other 3 times in the FFA cup, plus FFA Cup and Finals
- he was also asked about expansion, and he said that he didn't care about how many Foxtel boxes or current customers were in that area (he was being asked about Tasmania specifically), it was more about growing the comp and the sport. New teams needed to add to the competition.

He comes on at about 27 minute mark.

I wonder what the cutoff point for going from playing each team 3x to 2x is. I'm guessing that at 12 teams we're still playing everyone 3x but we extend the season? Or do we go down to twice and then have a shorter season (with an even longer off season).

Maybe with 12 teams, it could be 11 H, 11 A, top 6/bottom 6 split 5 more? then maybe a top four, but with two-legged playoffs?

Although the TV deal is alright, I don't think there is going to be much meat left on the bone for expansion once the money get distributed around.

Aren't they saying the money will increase if there is expansion?

Yes, and that fox will choose where they are.

Does that mean SKY TV has a say in another NZ club if it was to happen?.

Fox have agreed to cover the cost of broadcasting the game and FFA are free to sell it to either Fox, a FTA or a combination of both... or to  anyone that ways to buy it.

Do you have a link/proof where it says Fox will be paying extra money for expansion?.
