I know I said I'd revoke my whinging but this is what I was talking about. Compared to this from Stuff. NZ Herald reporting on Christchurch receiving no damage while Stuff reports on the (albeit little) damage in the affected area.

I've just this minute looked at who wrote the NZ Herald piece. I'm not having a personal go at you Paul, just venting.

I just noticed this post - I don't get your point. My story is as comprehensive, if not more so, than theirs, apart from the mention of the broken bottles, and quotes the PM - who would have briefed on situation. I fail to see the issue with the story, sorry.

Whereas the Press (and therefore Stuff) have an entire newsroom in Chch, we have one reporter. I think considering that we do a fantastic job covering the city (Canon award winning even!). But if there is something we need to cover, please tell me.

As for today's quake, it really is mindblowing these sorts of shakes are still hitting the city. My heart really goes out to the people of the city, your strength is astounding!

I love that! I think I've seen it on a t-shirt - although I could be imagining it. If not, a Quakes on a Plain design would be cool.

My point at the time was the quake actually happened in Rolleston but there was no mention of it. The Press as a general 'rule' only reports on things that affect the city and not the surrounding districts, but they got it on the button. It wouldn't have taken much for your Chch reporter to ring the Selwyn District Council whose office is in Rolleston, or one of the local businesses, to get a bit more info given that we knew where it came from before your report came out. The reason it grinds me so is that I actually like reading nzherald.co.nz more than stuff.

Fair enough. As I'm sure you're aware, the GNS emails/tweets etc simply say the quake's proximity to the nearest city. I've tended to use this information in stories. However, I have had other residents recently mention, as you have, that they want to know exactly where the quake was centred - to the suburb/small town - and so now more often than not I now provide that (see our breaking stories yesterday). This information can be found through following links from the GNS site. Online reporters are expected to write many more stories than print reporters each day, and sometimes the attention to details can slip by. The attention to facts should of course always remain, regardless of the rush to break stories first. Cheers.

Don't worry, I'm ok. I spoke to a cop on Fort St, and he knew of no damage in the city. He didn't even know there had been an earthquake, to be honest. Some people said it was like a truck driving past their house when it hit, which sounds pretty freaky. I hope everyone is ok!

Was at a facility in Khandallah playing (well, we hadn't started playing yet, just warming up, i.e. smashing the ball as hard as we could), indoor football with a bunch of other boxheads when the whole, rather flimsy, building violently shook and gave us all a second's pause.

But incredibly, one of the lads didn't feel it at all, and thought we were pulling his leg when talking about the earthquake. Someone had to log onto Geonet on their iPhone after the game before we could convince him.

I was standing at the intersection of Courtnay Pl & Tory St waiting to cross the road with a group of friend.  Then I felt myself going up & down.  We had a few drinks prior to that & I thought it was the alcohol until couple of my mates asked "Was that an earthquake?"

I was at TSB arena watching a roller derby (that's a whole another story again...) and the whole place moved. Stuff came down off the rafters too. Then people started running out. Unfortunately it was in the break as watching the girls roll around on skates in an earthquake would have been quite interesting to watch...

Hahaha...isn't called the Richter Roller Derby?  How appropriate.  I went back in June/July for the first time.  Quite entertaining.

Yeah that's the one. And the irony was pointed out by the announcers.
Was surprised actually, I'd go back I reckon.

Honestly, that is an incredibly stupid thing to say. Wait until someone who is still suffering from the trauma of chch to read that.

Ugh..... Im not trying to offend Christchurch residents. I know people affected by it, much like everyone else. Im in no way wishing it upon them or trying to upset them. Don't read into it so much.

But whatever.
Deleted then.

And just to explain. When I say no Major damage or injuries. I dont mean no major injuries. I mean none at all.

Our building did make a hell of a lot of noise though. Worried about being here in a big one.

And one of our drivers have said that "The old Polytech has collapsed"
I suspect its rubbish though

haha Stefan you've got no clue

you've obviously got no idea what it does to the elderly or fragile even if you have no damage or injuries.
