Have managed to contact one of the two people. Even that is such a relief.

Fingers crossed for you. One of my other friends has someone missing - received a text from a person who found their phone on the street. Pretty worrying stuff.

It sucks after people would have just been rebuilding. Hope that the death toll doesn't rise too much more.

Just got back from Greymouth. We're all fine and very little damage out in Rolleston. Seems the central city, eastern suburbs and Lyttelton bore the brunt of it. Finding it very hard to contact friends in town including serveral yf, but family are all ok. Thanks for all your thoughts/prayers guys.

If you are looking for someone in Christchurch, or are in Christchurch and are alright - google has set up this people-finder: http://christchurch-2011.person-finder.appspot.com/

I hope everyone is alright. Today is truly one of the worst days we may know.

Also - Wellington Airport is appealing to Wellingtonians to take in people from Christchurch stranded in the capital because of the quake. Please show them the hospitality many of you have shown me in your city!

My parents are travelling round the south island at the moment with some friends from Wales.  They arrived in Christchurch just as the quake started, but thankfully are ok and holed up in a place with water, electricity, etc.  Very horrible situation.

Must be a huge relief to you Frankie. Have you seen any footage of the city?

Hopefully they can continue with their trip - won't be anything to see/do in ChCh for a while to come.

I looked into the blood donating and a friend who works at the hospital said they don't need blood down there at the moment but the situation may change. I guess it's better to donate anyway as it will benefit someone at some stage.

Ditto.  A Canadian friend who has just moved here travelled from the west coast to Chch this morning.  Was meant to fly out to Auckland at 3pm this arvo for a job interview.  She is currently sleeping in the lobby of a hotel.

Obviously thought go out to those effected.

Not really seen any footage as was talking to them and family in Wales while trying to get ready for work this morning.  They are heading back up north tomorrow, so trying to get through the night and then get the hell out of dodge.

Getting unofficial estimation reports that maybe over 200 to 400 people are dead. As heard before 65 bodies are officially accounted for. there are estimates of about 200 people trapped.

This is all conjecture at the moment. All the people I know are accounted for, there were a family in Sumner that I wasn't sure about until 11:30 pm and they are fine.AllWhitebelievr2011-02-23 01:54:26

Day two and the footage shows the true devastation of the event. Fantastic that the Australians have arrived to help out too. I hope that is not forgotten in time. Bob Parker has said that the object today is to continue to concentrate of freeing survivors from the rubble not doing a body recovery although that will happen as they sweep through the buildings.

Blood stocks are okay at the moment. If additional blood donors are needed they will put out messages asking for people to donate in the areas that it's required.

(I work for the New Zealand Blood Service and the people who actually deal with the donors have been swamped apparently, because the Media incorrectly put messages out yesterday asking people to come in and donate)

I'm in Dunedin currently. My family is ok in CHCH. I've been advised not to try and come back as it's safer to stay away.

Just found this: Recommendation from Airport staff - she recommended that people with personal offers of accommodation call 0800 AIRPORT from wherever they are in the country and offer accommodation to their airport staff, apparently there ar a lot of cantabrians clogging chch airport wanting to get out and go anywhere.

Daughter works on the ferries and she said last nites crossing was terrible. With a number of families just leaving Christchurch with all they had on some had no money so the staff just gave the families what they needed. She said trip down was just as bad one woman had a husband who had been trapped in rubble and they had to amputate to get him out.

Getting worried still unable to contact my friends.
