Sorry to be pedantic here but "New Zealand" didn't exist before colonisation. Aotearoa, the land mass that is now named New Zealand did, but New Zealand is a term that was introduced by those who colonised Aotearoa, not by those who originally inhabited the land thousands of years prior to colonisation therefore meaning it did not exist prior to this point in history.
