haha you really do despise the Leafs (noticed they weren't included in your other 4 Canadian teams)
I'm going for Chicago over the Sharks and well Philly are playing well so will be tough to choose between them and Montreal. Hopefully both series will go to 7 games.
who you picking?

Those poor ice skates they're only thin, plus he couldn't stay still the whole time whilst wearing them either could he ? still i have wondered the same thing
How much would an NHL franchise pay a goal tender who could guarantee they did not lose any of their home games for the entire season? I reckon they'd pay s***loads.

This makes me happy. My team 2nd in the division and 5th in the conference, while my least favourite two teams in the bottom two of the division (and Buffaslugs 14th in the conference, BWAHAHA!). Swap Ottawa and Montreal and I'd be set!

Ha! Well done
It's been a very good day. The Habs smashed the evil Bruins, and the Sens got beaten up on too!
GGF
The Canucks are my second team - I was involved with a girl from BC for a few years, she tried to get me to switch to her side. Didn't happen, although I follow their progress as well (to a lesser degree) and have a Canucks sweater back at my parents place.
That's my coping strategy for today and I'm sticking with it
A conspiracy theorist would say Bettman would rig it to have the Sharks beat the Habs in Game 7.
I'm picking Chicago and Montreal to advance. Chicago to win the whole thing.

I at least hope the Habs don't get swept. I'm not too excited by either matchup at the moment.
Bye San Jose...

GO The Leafs :D Whens the season back? or is it still on haha. *Not really a fan* whose watching the mls here btw?
Ah yes, the annual San Jose Choke, was wondering when it'd be this year!
@O6 Adam Federici, Australia's goalkeeper for the first half of the All Whites match just gone. He was born in my hometown (Nowra, NSW) and grew up in nearby Huskisson.
@CboZ Don't worry, most Maple Laughs supporters aren't real fans As for MLS - this is the NHL thread, go talk MLS on the MLS thread. Silly Clarkey! (Columbus sucks)

Think I'm gonna have to cheer for Chicago here, if only because I have a mate from there and a soft spot for the Cubbies.
shock horror, me and you are actually supporting the same team! haha
My friends, friends son David Bolland plays for Chicago. he's from Mimico. So thats why I support them.

Canada Day = FREE AGENT FRENZY!
We got Sergei Gonchar. Will be interesting to see how he goes - quality, consistent player and would definitely be a strong addition to the team IF he remains healthy. Bit of a risk though and at $5.5M for three seasons, an expensive one too. That being said, hell of a role model for our defensive prospects, one of our strongest areas.

Going to the sens?
Yep, Gonchar is a Senator for the next three years.

It's on SS2, could be an ESPN feed though! hopefully they will show a canadian team at some stage. I could also be wrong about it being each Saturday because they had a game on last Sunday so i'll need to check on online guide as it's not listed in the magazine.

An All-Auckland final? Boo-urns. Southern Stampede FTW.
The 'nucks are something of a second team for me due to my connections with Vancouver, not to mention my ex being a massive Canucks fan. And Luongo is quality.
Can't watch any of those matches unfortunately, too much study :(

Go Habs Go. Top of the East.
How much would an NHL franchise pay a goal tender who could guarantee they did not lose any of their home games for the entire season? I reckon they'd pay s***loads.
So, you know those REALLY fat people. No, not Hard News, Not me, REALLY fat people... like those people who have not been out of their apartment for years who they do documentaries on, and who are contenders for fatest person in the world etc. How many jobs do you think they can do? Not many I'd wager. How many jobs do you think they could do that would pay as much as an NHL franchise would pay for a goaltender who could guarantee they did not lose any of their home games for the entire season?
So... bring those two ideas together. I want to see the Habs sign Manuel Uribe as their starting goal tender. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Uribe At 597kgs it might take a bit of effort for the rest of the team to push him out onto the ice at the start of the game, and from one end to the other at the end of each period, but once that was done they'd be sorted.
The goal is 3.66 metres wide and 2.1 metres high. With shoulder pads on I reckon he'd block it off.
There are limits on the size of goal tender's pads to stop ordinary sized goalies using massive pads to cover more of the goal. I reckon the NHL might struggle to ban Manuel Uribe from playing, although it might be an interesting case.
Those size limits mean any equipment he has won't cover his entire body. Have you ever been hit by a rubber projectile flying at ~100mph? I have, and it's NOT fun.
That being said, the idea isn't a new one. A former coach of the Islanders suggested getting a sumo wrestler to do it, but that coach was an utter muppet. I think a minor league team did it once but it didn't work out.

I wasn't thinking he'd be standing on the skates. I figured he'd just be sitting there on well padded pants, maybe with heater's in them to prevent frost bite.

Indeed.

I think you should stick by your team Robb. Swapping your favourite team from the Sens to the Habs just to be able to say youa re top of the conference is a bit drastic... it's a long season mate.

I did commit an almost unforgivable "away team colours" faux pas on Saturday.
I wore my Habs jersey. It's manufactured by CCM, and we were playing the Central Coast Mariners. My mate did point out that wearing CCM gear to a Mariners game was probably likely to get me bottled...
LOL.
