On 13 January 1939 Melbourne had its hottest temperature on record, 45.6 C (114.1 F).
Record-breaking heat scorches southern Australia -

Melbourne, Australia's second-largest city recorded its third consecutive day of temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius (109 F) for the first time since 1855, when record-keeping began, the Bureau of Meteorology said.

The temperature in Melbourne topped 45.1 C (113 F) on Friday ahead of a cooler change that might even bring some thunder showers, the bureau said.

Adelaide, the other major city on the south coast, is expected to match its longest heat wave in a century by Monday, with six consecutive days exceeding 40 C (104 F). The heat there buckled train and tram line

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

C-To.... I can't type that, it's Christchurch or CHCH. Where the hell do you get the 'town' from? It's not Hamilton. Bad spelling is one thing, but this?

The c**ts who started it deserve to be tortured for the rest of their miserable lives. Utter utter c**ts.

Three for me, and two for them.

To think that they're going back out and re-starting fires that crews have spent hours putting out...it boggles the mind.

Wonder if they will have a law change and bring in the death penalty for this - or does it still exist for acts of terrorism etc?

Should we do a YF fundraiser? I'm sure Aussie football fans would appreciate any gesture of help. Absolutely trajic what is happening over there. floods at one end and fires at the other.

I hope any arsonist caught is thrown to the public to deal with.

Shows complete and utter disrespect for human life what these arsonists have done.  Should get life behind bars.

If they end up behind bars I doubt they'll live out their sentences.

I doubt they'll see out the afternoon, tbh...

And?

they deserve everything coming to them if they really are guilty of starting a fire. personally i think they should be dropped off in bush right in front of the fire and left to it. Live by the sword, die by the sword so to speak.

Thanks HN. Did the deed and feel damn good about it. I understand that they can expect more of the same this weekend as more high temps are expected. If those two fronts join up it has huge potential for trouble.

If he was tried here, he'd get 200 hours community service, probably clearing scrub.
