Southland Won  9-3 was 6-3 for  a while though and at 9-3 Canterbury were always looking like coming back and scoring a try in the last seconds.

Things Daniel has learnt today:

1) Canterbury's fans (or lack their of) are an absolute disgrace. f**king Gold Coast in disguise.

2) It's a good thing Steven Brett is going to the Blues.

3) If we play like that next year we'll get relegated

4) We don't deserve the ranfurly shield.

5) People who say "Its good to see a union outside of the major centres" are Morons. We lost to a sh*thouse union... That just makes it worse.

6) If I hear one more person say "Oh well, where still going to win the Air NZ Cup - that's way more important" you'll hear my screams in Wellington. Please, please, please learn something about the history of the game in this country before making a comment as f**king stupid as that.

7) We won't win the Air NZ Cup if we play like that.

The strange thing was for me that for 60 minutes of that game Southlands best player, Robinson, was pants! His kicking was horrendous, Cowan wasn't great and they were getting done over in the scrum and lineout. Basically Southland were pretty average, but Canterbury were worse.

Defence got them through, you could tell they just wanted it more.

On Stephen Brett, my boss put it pretty well this morning when he called him a flat track bully. Collin Slade was average also. Nasi Manu finally did something which was good to see.

There is nothing like the Shield to create such passion, it really is amazing. I was so excited for Southland last night because I remember being at Eden Park in 04 when we won it and there is just nothing like it.

I thought both Brett and Slade were ordinary, but I think Brett is possibly the most overrated 10 in the country. His goal kicking is rubbish and the amount of times he kicks the ball out on the full or dead or straight down the oppositions throat is ridiculous.

I still think there is something wrong when more away fans turn up to a match being hosted by a top of the table team. Canterbury's "supporters" are a joke.

Impressive, they sold 7,500 tickets for the NPC Grand Final. Congratulations to the NZRFU for such narrow self centered minds, The crowd figures are reflecting what you are doing to the game.

And it is not because of the ground re-development that the crowd is so pathetic.

I listened to Radio NZ SPort talkback tonight after 6pm and man were they giving it heaps, trying to find out "why"? Easy, just open your eyes.

Of course this is good news for every other NZ sport as they must be attacking some of the attendees and there's also a Firework display tonight in CHCH.

Once again Wellington play in a final and forget to bring their brains. Good lord! Is it that difficult to see the way the game is panning out and change your gameplan.

Is this something like 7 grand finals in the last 9 years that we've lost if we lose this one. Blimey thats poor. On the bright side we're pretty consistent !

2. Good performance in the 2nd half but that does not mask over the pure stupidity of the play in the 1st half. The way they played in the 2nd, getting Vito running wide  and using the pace in midfield was the recipe. Why the f**k they thought they needed to kick the ball.

Canterbury are very very good at slowing the ball down substantially.

And Dane Coles, I mean honestly! You are a muppet, an absolute muppet. A hookers job is to throw the ball in, learn how to do that before you become good at seagulling.

My last point is if you look at the way Wellington lose finals it is the same recipe every time, its stopped being a coincidence now. Its systemic, the young players Wellington are producing are supreme athletes but are all brainless gits. They do not know how to win, it even goes back to the guys at College. Wellington College produce supreme athletes who dominate at school boy level but have not won any tournament of note for years. Because they do not know how to play in big games.

Best thing that could happen to the Crusaders... Now if he could just f**k off out of the Canterbury side

Baffles me why we signed Daniel Bowden. He's as rubbish (if not more rubbish) then Brett. Colin Slade should be back up 10.Mr_Incredible2009-11-12 13:24:17

Wanted to go I think Simon. Would probably be behind Ellison and Gear but who knows, he made the decision before he became an All Black

Couple of interesting things for me.
1) What do the Highlanders do with Robinson? 10,12 or 15? Presumably they make the most of the resources they have which means Dagg plays 15. Berquist has had a great season so use him at 10 which suggests Robinson plays 12. Some people say that is his best position but that means no place for Jayden Hayward who has been great the last two seasons.

2) All Blacks on the benches, will Delany play 12 perhaps to get both Donald and Delany on the park at the Chiefs? Will Ellison play as a winger at the Canes so he can get game time. I think the answer to the latter is yes, not so sure about the Delany/Donald battle. Bruce has played better footy the last couple of season and that is a pretty settled backline with Kahui, Sivi, Masaga and Mills outside them.

3) Hurricanes picking Coles ahead of Robinson, WTF! When Coles learns to do the job that a hooker is supposed to do he will be a great player until then he is a showboating muppet. Also who is this other guy they have picked up from Canterbury, Patterson I understand but the other guy not at all. If I were Daniel Ramsay or Mark Reddish I would be seriously miffed.

Crusaders and Chiefs look to be the strongest squads to me, Chiefs strength lies in the fact they will be able to put out basically the same team as last season. Crusaders have great depth, being able to leave out one of Ross, Jack or Thorn, having George Whitelock on the bench if they play Waldrom at 8. For what it is worth I wouldn't be adverse to seeing Richie have a decent run at 8 next season for the Saders with Read at 6 and Whitelock at 7. Would be very interesting to see how it works and could save Richies body a bit. Their backline to is very exciting, young and unproven at this level outside Carter and Ellis but very exciting. Ellis, Carter, Bateman, Fruean/Crotty, Guilford, Maitland and Slade.

We didn't let Guilford go, he is signed with Canterbury and loaned to Hawkes Bay, same loophole that the Crusaders exploit for Warldrom

all the media keeps going on about how bad this all blacks team is. could it just be that other teams, especially the northern hemisphere teams, are getting stronger and closing the gap?

Mhmm, I don't think we're bad. We beat Australia four times. Yeah we lost to South Africa but that South African team is very very good. And we've beaten all the teams on this Northern Hemisphere tour. I don't count those June tests, always seem to be a bit of a joke.

Was in Mangatainoka yesterday, was a great ocassion. Game was pretty bollocks, for me the biggest thing the Canes needed out of this pre-season was getting Cruden running alongside Weepu. They know Ripia can play outside him at this level but have no idea about Cruden. No one in either team really stood out, though the view I had of the game and the extent to which I actually concentrated on it was minimal.

Would have been an even better ocassion if the weather had been good but the rain and the mud added to the grassroots feel of it all. Walking to the beertent felt like walking across Kilbirnie 2 on a bad afternoon in July.

Im looking forward to see how Cruden goes this year, he might bring the excitement back to the Hurricanes backline. Hope he can get thru the season without the fitness problems he had during the Air NZ Cup.

And poor old Ali Williams, might be the end of him, not many people come back from doing the same achilles twice.

Cruden played second half of a good win for the Hurricanes v the Brumbies yesterday. A 26-5 win in front of a good crowd at Porirua.

Cruden looked absolute quality, first three touches he threw a great pass, made a great break and kicked over the head of the winger into a corner.

Others to stand out for me were Charlie Ngatai, Alapati Leiua, Tamati Ellison when he came on and James Broadhurst the big lock.

So so gutted for Ali, 6 months lay off will have him back in July ready to play NPC and maybe go on the end of year tour. But we do have depth at lock, Thorn, Boric, Williams, Donnely, Eaton and a returning Chris Jack. Not a bad line up really.
