epic by ODI standards, but barely half a session's play by the long form...
Not convinced about dropping Martin, but we'll see there. He has the ability to take big wickets, and get the ball to do things that others can't. He also has the ability to come out and monster a batting line up on his day. Dependant on form and fitness of course.
Not sure Gillespie is in the same category there. We'll see, but it is the Windies, though it took Bond and a dodgy ball change to work wonders last time at Eden Park.
Also really not convinced about the plan of FLynn as a test number 3. You don't learn how to be a test number 3 by playing test cricket. Better to have an old hand come in and fill in, in the mean time in a similar way to what Robbie Hart did a few years ago, than keep tinkering like this. Would love to be surprised and for him to regularly hit hundreds in that position. He hasn't been doing this at 6 though, and 3 isn't an easier slot in the line up.
We are light on hundreds over the last couple of years. I remember once playing Australia when we got 3 in one innings FFS. IN TWO DAYS!
we've managed 5 in the past 2 two years- not including tests played against Bangladesh.
I don't know if McIntosh will be something in a long line of revolving door openers- Papps, Cummings, Fulton, Marshall H, Marshall J, Bell, and Redmond. Or if possibly he may show some class and cement a place.
One thing is for sure: there is not batsman with the class of Fleming who could play at any position in the top 6. In fact with Fleming it may be a pity that he had to open, as he might have flowered more at 4, the traditional spot for your best.
okay wrapping up. light ending play.
