Look at how Guppy got out against Holder. That's why he should never be in consideration as a test opener again for mine. We've had so much success with this opening partnership giving us some moderate starts and occasional scores from one and two. I think if Guppy is going anywhere it has to be in the middle order. Which is a bit of a battle- Macca, Ryder, Guptill and Anderson all really trying to get in on those 5 and 6 spots. I think Rutherford and Fulton have earned the right to be incumbents. Fulton will retire in the next little while- he's too old to be going for ever and Rutherford has to convert. Too often he throws his wicket away in a good batting situation. But if we are going to have stroke makers scoring effectively we need openers to cover for them and have tired the bowlers out a bit when they get to the wicket.
