Just read Martin Crowe's piece on cricinfo and it's got me all emo. As a commentator and a pundit I have to admit that Crowe has irritated me in the past but there's no denying that he's an all time great, and the way is life is ending is fudgeing horrible. I hope if/when we win this thing Baz and the boys dedicate it to Martin.

My precarious life ahead may not afford me the luxury of many more games to watch and enjoy. So this is likely to be it. The last, maybe, and I can happily live with that. To see the two sons I never had, Ross Taylor and Marty Guptill, run out in black, in sync with their close comrades, drawing on all their resolve and resilience, will be mesmerically satisfying. I will hold back tears all day long. I will gasp for air on occasions. I will feel like a nervous parent.

I actually had the opposite reaction. I thought it was quite an insightful article and then he reminded us once again of his predicament. As much as it sounds heartless, I actually thought it was an attempt to get the spot light back on him which he has had a fair bit this tournament. I feel for the guy, I really do and it really sucks as he has gotten the sharktiest end of the stick possible. He is a cricket legend but this is not his time. He's had his bat at Cornwall, he had his HOF induction and had his opinion canvassed en masse along with the memories and footage of 23 years ago. Let the cricket and this team be the front and centre for their final, not a reminder of what you have coming.

Sorry JV but I completely disagree with that. For a start, he's paid by Cricinfo to share his thoughts and iopinions on the game and that's what he's done here.

But more than that, this is a guy who has poured his heart and soul into cricket in NZ, who has mentored some of this team and been in and around the camp all summer, whose last game of cricket he'll be able to attend is his country's first World Cup final, 23 years after the side he captained fell at the semi stage. I'd guess it's almost impossible for anyone else to even begin to grasp how much this means to him.

I understand and accept that criticism.
