The English series was meaningless anyway, it didn't count towards the test championship rankings.
Every test is important. The history and importance of test cricket is not reliant on a test championship that hasn't even fully happened yet. I just don't know how you can claim that it was meaningless, nor that it was a second string English side, missing only one player.
